Waspsalad is a furry NSFW artist, who joined the fandom two years ago (~May 2020). Unlike other furry porn artists, who prefer to work on commissions for their living, Wasp realized that is too much work and therefore went to the easiest money-making routine - adoptables.
And now you may be thinking "Possum, 1200$ for a lizard sketch in the furry fandom is nothing!!". Well, don't worry, because the reason why I wrote about this person in the first place is their latest June action that reached 5,500 Dollars.

I have heard third hand reports of custom Fursuits arriving stinking of weed because the maker is a stoner who hits the bong in the same room as the sewing materials.

A small but nevertheless interesting example of a financial furry fuck-up, let alone a furry fuck-up in his own right, is Sabrotiger/Matthew J. Dickey. Sabrotiger, or simply Sabro, is a furry porn artist who is known for doing three things: 1) Master Tigress porn, 2) very intricate art lush with detail, and 3) fetish art of futas/hermaphrodites, pregnancy/impregnation (with a little bit of rape) as well as birthing/oviposition and bestiality. Now, such a repertoire would be quite a boon for a furry porn artist, to the point that he would make enough from commissions (be it SFW or NSFW) to live pretty comfortably, or at least make ends meet; but this is actually not the case with Matthew, as I will elaborate.

Last year, he had to quit doing NSFW commissions and art because the stress of dealing with "horrible commissioners" was so great that it was making him physically ill, a hiatus similar to one that he took the year before, but unlike then, he deactivated his old Patreon, single-handedly deleting every post there as he prepared to move to SubscribeStar.

NEW ART TABLET
After Sabro's old art tablet broke, he ordered a new one from Amazon

The SS offers two subscription tiers: the basic $5 Micro Gobo Tier, which grants early access to works before they are publicly released, and the whopping $10 10 buckeroo bros Tier, which CURRENTLY is just "basically early access tip jar stuff. : >" The $5 Tier used to offer Discord Roles for Sabro's SS Discord Server prior to May (https://archive.ph/GHt6o - From 28th of April), but it now seems to have been dropped for some reason (https://archive.ph/onlyl - perhaps this could be the reasons the Discord Roles were dropped, Sabro needed to work on authentication). Why Sabro would want a Discord server for his SubscribeStar supporters when he had trouble with the members of his own Patreon Discord server, is anyone's guess.

Sabro HAS a Ko-fi account, but it seems that he has gone and deleted any links to it, so that's an extra source of income obscured from most people. I was only able to fine Sabro's Ko-fi page through an archive and link to one of his more recent post (from th 29th of June of this year), and the last donation of one Coffee by MaximTheos from over ninety days ago.

Now, I haven't been keeping a good eye on his commission prices most of the time, as they constantly fluctuated depending on Sabro's mood,

But, perhaps the most important detail of this is that Sabro was open to SFW commissions (and only SFW comms), for the time; perhaps this would explain the rather drastic slashing of prices, in order to entice more customers with a SFW comm. He also leaves a link to his SFW Twitter account, as he would later shut down this Twitter account a few days afterwards.

Yeah finding pet hair on fursuits happens quite often; almost every negative fursuit review I've seen mentions that. I've also seen some fursuits come with rabbit/rat/mouse shit.

As a child who grew up when the web was in it's "Wild West" phase, I've become desensitized to a lot of things. That and these people are rather interesting subjects for the amount of personal information they share.
I'd estimate that people like this exist anywhere between the high hundreds of thousands to the low millions - since popular accounts in this group usually have followers in the tens of thousands range, you also need to compensate for lurkers as well as foreigners who are unseen due to language barriers that have their own following and lurkers. ABDLs are as infectious as troons, so the numbers will only grow.
You will see man-made horrors beyond your comprehension.

Most furry art used to be a lot more affordable, as it had been predominantly sold by people who treated it as a hobby rather than a proper income. Over time, overhyped artfurs like Zaush and Jasonafex began to make big bank (or gave the impression they were), and, combined with industry professionals joining in order to pay rent in between their real job offers and an upswing of posts about how "art is worth how much time and effort you put into it", we saw prices for simple static icons jumping nearly overnight from $5 to $25, even for artists who could be considered intermediate at best.
Not to salt anyone trying to earn their bread, if you have a hussle and it works who gives a shit. But furries have always been bad at saving money and the price increase, along with YCH, limited runs, and character adopts has made the market signifigantly more predatory than it was back in 2005.

Adoptable pricing is super weird. On certain auction sites you'll see shit like this sell for literally tens of dollars from some literally who Russian artist. It has to be in the name and less the quality of art.

For an introduction, Chikomokii (Michi) is a """suggestive""" furry artist from Southeast Asia (Philippines). Her artwork can be summarized as "soft gamer neko e-girl uwu", with a nice softcore porn coomer sprinkle for extra likes and attention.
The majority of adoptable artists usually sell a design, then wait for some period of time/make art or commissions before making another adoptable again, But Michi has never heard of a "cooldown" because half of her posts are related to wanting money from adoptables on her Twitter.
These don't really sell high, but in late June she put an "e-girl cow" one of her more "serious" adopts, that got claimed for around ~200$ with bidders backing out (wonder why).
Absolutely. It's the same marketing tactic as Supreme. In the furry fandom, reputation is really important and a lot of furries are ready to blow 1k to get work/design by someone popular. It's like a badge of honor for them.
The majority of Russian artists who know of, usually get the short end of the stick, Russians like MilesDF are an exeption. They either really work their asses off on fully painted commissions or to try to make adoptables that don't get attention at all.
I think the main reason is that a lot of Russians aren't raised with that capitalistic/aesthethic mindset that furries love so much and prefer full composition paintings over a cat on a pink gamer chair.
My very autistic less likely theory is that some Americans don't really want to pay Russians either for political reasons or discrimination. Just like real life slavs/easten europeans leave their shithole countries and work constantly to make a living, only to be descriminated being called subhuman or raging alcoholics, but that's just a theory of mine.

It isn't just furries. Even the anime community and art community as a whole do it. Had an ex-bestfriend way back in the day who was obsessed with adopts. There are entire rings of this shit out in DA. What makes it worse is DA has that points system which people try to mass make adopts just to get points to use to get custom art or more/other adopts. Its an endless cycle where artists... "artists"?... see who can "print the most points" basically by using a single base.
From my understanding, its people who are shit at art trying to make quick points to "buy" better, more "creative" designs that they cannot come up with.
It is kind of a way to get "Free art" to these people. Sure, many people pay too, but I believe the base flood of the adopt structure for DA is on the point system.
You can see how the points progress with the style and/or "ability". The person who is selling many for 20 points will eventually be able to save up and buy something for 300 or 700 points without having to spend a dime of their own money,
Anything on top of this for money is normally for style or artist's name. It's the same thing that makes Pokemon popular, like a name brand. Same thing on twitter where certain artists can charge $200 for a piece of furry ass. "Wow, sparkldog87 drew an adoptable! I want it because its cool and they drew it!"

I believe this does tie back into how uncreative most of the furry community is though. So many people either have orange foxes, generic wolf#3099982, or some sparkle dog. I suppose any of these designs could be turned into a sona and it just makes for cheap design "sharing" at the end of the day. It can also come as an obsession with some people who want to collect and hoard designs. This exfriend of mine was the same way where she would hoard endless characters and never do anything with them or the art. She hardly drew herself and when she did it was with bases which is a whole different topic.
