Stop Hating Anime

I'm with you there. When it's genuine "conversational" Japanese*, it sounds fine to me. But when they put on the extra squeaky "UWU SUGOIII KAWAII DESU!!!" shit, you know they are pandering to weeaboos in the West, not regular anime fans.
I still think it can be cute, and funny in a shitposty way. All things in moderation.
Only reason I don't watch dubs as a rule is because most English dubs are just so bad they make the show unwatchable.
I think I read somewhere that Funimation drastically changed the jokes and dialogue in the English dub of Crayon Shin-chan.

In general, I neither love nor hate anime.
Anime has created both degeneracy but also beauty.
Bad storytelling and good storytelling has came of it.

English dubs operate on sturgeon's law, but subs can also be a pain, when your reading the bottom your mostly missing what's on the rest of the screen sometimes.

Meh, I feel like anime peaked during 2006 - 2014 give or take. There have been good shows since of course but it just doesn't capture the same magic.
The best Anime was from the late-80's to mid 90's - change my mind.
Anime's peak would be from 1988 to 2007 in my opinion, some major paradigm shifts occurred after 2007 that I don't think were necessarily changes for the better.

The first is the failure of the second seasons of Code Geass and Haruhi in 2008/2009 which kind of killed 2000s era anime, the second was the introduction of K-ON in 2009 which is where the "cute girls doing cute things" genre became overly gimmicky in my opinion and the next few were the introductions of Attack on Titan, MHA and Demon Slayer all of which brought in new generations of fans but even if they're solid series seem a little too familiar as tropes get recycled, but is mind blowing if they're new to you.

To some degree this is how anime has always worked, I'm sure 60s/70s fans felt out of place in the 80s and 90s and I'm sure 80s and 90s fans felt out of place in the 2000s, it happened to 2000s fans like me and it'll happen to MHA and Demon Slayer kiddies as well eventually.

Everyone kind of has "their era" when they first became a fan that you get attached to and eventually times change and you kind of get left behind as like I said, tropes keep getting recycled.

But I think anime has also been affected by the changes that have impacted literally everything since 2008 and I think if you narrow it all down to a peak those 19 years from 1988 to 2007 seems like an obvious one, that was the era that really made anime an international juggernaut instead of a Japanese curiosity.

ewwwww nope, and nose still doesn't belong in anime, take that shit back to your westoid garbage, moe is the way.

More people should hate anime so I don't have to deal with their whining.

All shows should have a 2 minute long intro of moe/fanservice shit to filter fags out, like A Sister is All You Need. The main character doesn't actually even really need a sister, now that's how you gatekeep properly.

The more I like anime, the more I think weebs should be buried alive in wet concrete.
The more anime I watched and analyzed, the more I started calling myself an otaku to separate myself from the weebs and their increasing embarrassments. Helps that being an "otaku" is actually fitting as I'm an animation sperg which is typically what an otaku is: a sperg of any given interest.

But as bad as the weebs are, the posers who infiltrated during the "geek chic" craze as anime became more mainstream are even worse because they can't stand the fact anime is uniquely Japanese and weird as fuck, and they want--no, demand it to accommodate to their sterilized needs.

Japan economic bubble boom was best anime. It all went downhill in a sheer drop after that. Suck on that, cat.

P&S is pretty much the last one I've seen that I would consider an all time favorite, what I've watched in the years since I've liked but are not ones I would consider to be all time greats and I've not watched anything more recent than 2016.
Not exactly good Christian material there, that show. Why watch it since it doesn't glorify God?

The only good anime are just Sword Art Online, Pop Team Epic, Darling in the Franxx, Boruto, School Days and Rent-A-Girlfriend and anyone who argues otherwise has shit taste.

Many people in this thread have made valid points, I've enjoyed reading each post. I agree with the general sentiment that most anime fans are cringe dysfunctional autists, and that most anime is pure cancer and garbage. Like someone said, its an artform and like any artform will have its highs and lows.

My two cents is that anime is a medium best enjoyed in small amounts. The single season is the perfect length for most anime in my opinion. I can watch a few episodes and enjoy the characters and the action. But unfortunately they really have a problem of running out of good ideas really fast. Any anime that has a large number of episodes 100% of the time is subject to filler and slow pacing, and unfunny gags as if they have a joke/visual gag quota to fill. Basically any shonen anime is out for me, such as Naruto, DBZ, One Piece, etc. I will admit I enjoyed DBZ back in the day, but outside of nostalgia I have to admit its very mediocre.

There has also been a lot of talk about which decade of anime is the best, and that it largely comes down to nostalgia and what you grew up with. I agree, and disagree at the same time. Rose tinted glasses are powerful. But still, I believe there are some objective things about the 20 year span of roughly late 80s to early 2000s anime that could never be duplicated. You just have a lot of series with more realism, more grounding than you will ever find. Its hard to explain but movies like Perfect Blue couldn't be made today. It's all too corporate and streamlined, they keep making the same anime over and over anymore; Supernatural teen heroes go on an edgy adventure that all the teenage weaboos can sperg about.

Some recommendations:

Short series:
Cowboy Bebop - undisputed best anime ever created.
Space Dandy - Obviously
One Outs - Possibly the smartest anime I've ever watched. Don't let the fact that it involves baseball dissuade you, it is shockingly good. It's all on Youtube too, go check it out.
Blue Sub 6 - I really like it, I know its not the most popular but fuck you, its good! Such a unique world and atmosphere.
Death Note - Such a love/hate relationship with this one. I wish they stopped about halfway through because the first arc might be my most favorite thing in any anime, but then it tanks HARD and the last third is almost unwatchable. Just stop watching when they introduce 'NEAR' and assume the story ends on a cliffhanger, then you'll have watched a masterpiece.
Durarara - This one continually surprised me with how good it was for an anime aimed directly at a teen audience. It would start to meander into generic predictable territory before taking a hard left and really surpassing my expectations. Worth a try, give it 2-3 episodes to understand what its about.

Not short but...
Galaxy Express 999 - If you are curious about some older anime and are in the mood for something slower paced and thoughtful, you could do well to check out this one. It's all online too. It has some moral lessons you just don't see anymore. Despite obviously being aimed at a younger audience, it has a lot of mature content like nudity and frequent character deaths. But what I love about this is just how heartwarming it is in a way that I can't describe, just watch it if you're up for it.
Gundam Wing - Holds up surprisingly well.
Evangelion - The original, of course. And the 'End of' film. I don't know about these remakes or whatever.
Big O - I really love this one. Very smart story, always leaves you with questions to ponder. Excellent character design. Second season is far better than the first, but both are good.

Movies/single OVA:
Akira - Has anyone not seen this at this point? I shouldn't have to explain. It's great.
Angel's Egg - It's probably not for everyone, but I think it really elevates anime into an art form. There are many interpretations on its deeper meaning. I found it captivating and fascinating. It's also on Youtube.
Green Legend Ran - I made a post about this one, and its on Youtube too.
Goku Midnight Eye - They made one badass pilot episode. I would have loved to see a whole series. It's on Youtube too, nudity and all (don't tell the mods).
Dead Leaves - It's a fucking trip. It's pretty good too.
Perfect Blue - Here's another well known classic. It's one of the best anime ever created, very adult and thought provoking.
KITE - By far the most truly disturbing anime I've seen, but it deserves recognition and I can't fault it for what it is. Finding the complete uncensored version is very difficult, every one I've seen on major streaming sites cuts out or abbreviates some scenes. You might just have to pirate it. I have the DVD with the full version.

Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli:
Really its own category, many people who don't like anime will stand by these. My favorites in order are,
Secret World of Arrietty - I was completely and hopelessly drawn into this one and I can't even explain why. The soundtrack is incredibly poignant and moving, especially after you've seen the ending.
Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind - My pick for his best film in the entire catalogue. It's just incredible from start to finish, It perfectly immerses you into its world. I can't even do it justice, just check it out if you haven't.
My Neighbor Totoro - You all know Totoro right? As Roger Ebert said, Totoro is endearing and innocent in a way Mickey Mouse could never be.
Castle in the Sky - Wonderful film, seems like a spiritual companion/successor to Nausicaa, with a similar post-apocalyptic world and environmental themes.
Spirited Away - Many people's favorite Ghibli film. I do like it quite a bit but in my opinion its far below the above ones. Seems to take place in the same world as Totoro.
Ponyo - Ponyo is great, a really fun film. My wife and I have enjoyed watching it and it has quite a few funny quotes and scenes. And the animation is absolutely beautiful.
Howl's Moving Castle - Some people adore this one and sperg over it. I thoroughly enjoyed it but found it inferior to all of the films listed above. But then again, a 'mediocre' Ghibli film is still leagues above most other anime.

Manga: (why not)
BLAME - Love it. I could (and do) reread this from time to time, can't say that about much else. Pewdiepie says its his favorite manga. Check it out online.
Liar Game - After watching One Outs I looked up the author's other works and found this. Holy shit it blew me away! What an underrated classic. Some of the smartest, most thought provoking, witty writing I've ever seen. It really hardly has anything to do with other manga, it's like its own genre entirely. Definitely worth a read!
Marginal - I like it.. It's kind of gay, but that for me is besides the point. Like many of my favorite anime/manga on this list, it's post-apocalyptic in nature and creates a really unique and compelling world. An all-male earth under an ancient conspiracy. It kept me eager to learn all its secrets. Here you go.
Uzumaki - You all know its good.
Akira - As good as the film is, its just a preview really. The manga goes into much more detail.

There's more but I'm done for now, this post is already a novel (sorry).

You know, Christ didn't die for this.
Holy shit, I laughed way too hard at that. Please send help, I keep rewatching it.
anime doesn't really look like this, it's more a vtubers thing, stop belittling us and don't compare anime enjoyers to vtube simps
You are correct. Still freaking hilarious though. Thanks for the autistic thread sir.
