Rain is for sure annoying, even with adequate protection. But snow is cleared from roads in any civilized European country. You don't have this in the US in urban and suburban areas, really?1) The fact that bikes are miserable in rain and downright dangeorus in snow/ice, making them useless for months at a time unless you live in California or the South.
I personally enjoy it.2) Even in places with little rain or snow, hot weather and the sun makes it miserable to ride for long periods.
You know you can attach big pouches and baskets to your bike? You can also attach toddler seats in the back. But it's not adapted for heavy objects like furniture. Paying 1 or 2 times a year to get a heavy object delivered to your place is nothing compared to gas and car insurance.3) You can't carry shit on a bike.
Yes, but you can take them in the train if you need to go to another city. There are also foldable bikes that you can take in buses and in the subway.4) Bikes are slow and limit the distance you can travel compared to a car
>what is car jacking5) Bikes make you much more vulnerable to crime/mugging/assault since they are relatively slow and leave you physically exposed.
Even if cars do better, bikes are still leagues better than public transportation in terms of safety. You don't hear about cyclist women getting raped, compared to unfortunate women getting raped in the subway.
Yes, and doesn't need gas, which the price keeps rising over and over. You're treating it like it's not a big deal, but it fucking is. By not buying a car and all the expenses that go with it, you can save up so much more money, that you can use to buy a house afterwards.About the only actual benefit to a bicycle is that its cheap to buy, low maintenance, and doesn't need license or insurance.
You also conveniently brushed off the pollution aspect of cars. It's not only about greenhouse effect gas, but also microparticles that they relese in the air. It's a major health issue, especially in cities where traffic is jammed up. People using bikes actually make cities more breathable for the average human. Bikes are also smaller than 4 seats cars used by a single person, so it's better to facilitate traffic.
If you live in the countryside, you absolutely need a car tho. But pro-bughive channels are city dwellers oriented content, so I was mostly referring to bikes in an urban environnement. In the countrysides bikes are mostly for weekend family outings in nature.
I think the ideal setting would be to have one car per (urban) family instead of two. You need them to carry heavy objects, transport several kids at the same time, and for some long distance trips not covered by public transportation, that can be unreliable : think about covid restrictions. Cars are still necessary because why would you rely exclusively on a state dependant service for long distance travel?
I think bike culture in Europe and in the US is very different. We tend to be way more casual about it and treat it like another transportation device, instead of making a bid deal about them.
