True. It wasn’t easy being an ex athlete in the USSR. No sponsorship deals or mad $$ contracts. Aside from the few luxury items from the west you might have gotten as inducement, it wasn’t like you had a lot saved up.

You could go on to become a coach, which a handful did. If you were from a good family and had the correct opinions, and had a little bit of luck, you might become an apparatchik, and be wheeled out for foreign commies praising the superior, scientifically socialist system.

But in most cases the end of a career just meant a job at a factory farm or factory. Suddenly cut off from all the ressources and special treatment you used to enjoy.

For many that led was a path that led to the bottle.

There’s a running theme that I’ve noticed, especially with the FTMs. How after their surgeries they just have to go on about how perfect and happy they feel and absolutely “NO REGRETS”.

Tangentially related, but I watched a video of a de-transitioner (can’t recall her name) who got their arm meat sack surgery 7 years prior to the video. After those 7 years she realized her dysphoria came from abuse she suffered as a child and her transitioning to a man was a way to protect herself from other men.

The scar she has on her arm is a painful reminder to her of how bad she didn’t realize she had it. It seemed a lot of trans youth looked up to her too.

I think about her when I read this thread and how these people are so sure of themselves, some that are just teenagers that don’t know what they want.

It’s sad to think a lot of these people were probably abused as kids and maybe becoming a man is also a way to protect themselves, but that’s my autistic speculation.

Post after post of “NO REGRETS I AM TOTALLY HAPPY WITH MY ARM SLEEVE PENIS” cope, these people are gonna face a harsh reality years down the line that they are, in fact, not happy at all and they’re just de-transitioners in waiting.

Regarding fat transfer for breast cancer patients....my big sis has the "training breast cancer" called DCIS. It's basically a milk duct gone bad. It looks like she's going to get a lumpectomy/radiation combo, with tamoxifen for 5 years. (99% survival rate after 5 years for my stage 0 - let's hear it for medical research, because it used to be about 75% in the 80's.)

She probably *won't* need much reconstruction, because her cancer is still tiny, and her boobs are big. Yay. But if she does, fat transfer *is* a possibility for her, and it is covered by her insurance. It's also used for women with Jazz-style tuberous breasts and other abnormalities to make you look more symmetrical.

The thing is....it has to be her own fat. I'd love to donate some to her, but no luck. Dammit.

It causes less problems for the body than silicone or saline implants, so, that's a definite plus. A buddy of mine got the Angelina Jolie special (all the girly bits yanked out) because she has the BRCA gene. While her fake ones look damn perky, she's had some issues - because of course she got the ones that have been linked to another kind of cancer. She's going to have to get a re-do on them in the next year.
