If Rippaverse really does become an agreeably mid publisher that churns the stuff out dependably, the whole wider comics landscape is going to feel some waves.
One thing CG has yet to do is bait professionals with the opportunity for steady work for hire gigs. If you’re EVS, Dale Keown, Kenneth Rocafort, etc, you can leverage your intricate art style, and there’s a good chance you’ll earn a year’s wages to draw a 32 page book. If you’re the kind of forgettable artist who trained for years as a jobber producing competent work quickly, what can CG offer you? Unless you think you can be a YouTube star, you’d probably play it safe at Marvel/DC.
Considering Rippa seems more interested in being a publisher than a writer or artist, his modern day Crossgen might succeed where Allegiance dropped the ball. If there was a publishing house one could take gigs at and expect a comparable level of compensation and job security to what the mainstream offers, it’ll be a lot harder to keep the talent wandering off the plantation.
