I think it's supposed to be a combination of the rabbits' noses. You can see four sets of eyes and four sets of ears, so I take the center as their noses being arranged in the same kind of circular pattern.
Exactly. And Miffy’s nose is a X anyway. Butthole is is the eye of the beholder IMO.
I think that has a great deal to do with the fact that a rabbit with a butthole-face is practically family-friendly compared to other buttholes we've seen in this thread. It's a nice palate cleanser.

All the "meme friendly" cartoon cats I've seen has had (more or less unnecessary) anuses drawn like that so it was where my mind went. Honestly, I used to be quite nerdy not too long ago and would have loved this shit, but troons and their ilk has completely ruined these kind of manga/anime/fantasy adjacent things for me.
