Not really a conspiracy but it is a theory. And after reading it, I saw the world through a new lens that I hadn't seen before.
I'm tired, sleep deprived and probably riding a Mania high, so it's a good time to do this. This is going to require some preamble, some power leveling and I'm expecting puzzle stickers by the end of it but I hope it'll be worth it. There's also no dedicated philosophy thread so here seems the next best place.
1. Preamble
Okay, on 4chan, specifically the /tg/ board there is a little community that make Choose Your Own Adventures. These are essentially single player wish fulfillment and offer things from fantastical adventures to waifu harems and the like. A good example would be "
Urban Unease", made on what is essentially dark fluff /tg/ wrote in a thread that someone compiled.
This brings me to the topic of this post. There is a user called /u/3_tankista, who I assume also posts on the 4chan threads but is mostly known in the reddit community. This is one dedicated autist who'll create entire worlds just because he had a good idea, entire magic systems because it seems fun to him. He's created the most comprehensive
Fate/Stay Night CYOA just because he could.
Two weeks ago he posted "
Outer Reincarnation", a CYOA dedicated to you being the 11th being to come to fruition in a world written in a kind of meta way.
2. Systems of the World
Once upon a time, there sat 3 Goddesses upon pillars.
[JNPL] (I'll call her Jean-Paul) , who sat upon the Pillar of Providence. She and her followers believe that all Stories have inherent Meaning, by finishing a story, one can reincarnate to begin another one.
[SRTR] (Sator), who sat upon the Pillar of Fate. Sator liked to nudge people in different directions, that stories, while fine, need a good Plot in order to make things interesting, that only by having people over come obstacles so they can bask in triumph can a Story ultimately have meaning.
[YMRD] (Yimerda), who sat upon the Pillar of Providence. Yimerda saw the World for how it was, how the Stories interacted with it and how even by carving out a home for a person to live in, that could become a mighty empire.
All three Goddesses use the God-Script, a language where even a single letter has Meaning.
All this changed when 0^0 ascended. The 9th outsider saw the Story for what it was and cast the Goddesses off their Pillars. She slew Jean-Paul to fuel he Mathemagicians, thereby bypassing the God-Script, Sator took refuge in a box that she can't influence the outside world from inside and Yimerda simply disappeared, hiding just out of the gaze of 0^0 as she continued her quest to turn the whole world white.
Before, the 10th Outsider tried and failed to depose 0^0 100 years ago and now the cycle of Reincarnation turns again to the 11th, that would be you. You enter a broken Story, one in the process of being consumed. Will you fight against 0^0? Or simply live out a normal life like one of the previous Incarnations did. There is no shame in that,
3. Real life Meaning
Now the juicy bits. Let's start with the most obvious.
Jean-Paul Charlotte (0^0's true name) Yirmerda Sator
Jean-Paul Charles Aymard Sartre. This entire CYOA is basically using Sartre's philosophy as the basis for it's world building. I'm not familiar enough with it so I'll have to pull bits from the wiki.
>Jean-Paul Charles Aymard Sartre was one of the key figures in the philosophy of Existentialism,
>Sartre's theory of existentialism states that “
existence precedes essence”, that is only by existing and acting a certain way do we give meaning to our lives. According to him, there is no fixed design for how a human being should be and no God to give us a purpose.
[JNPL], in the analogy of the CYOA is God and 0^0 is essentially post-modernism/Existentialism. By 0^0 slaying [JNPL], she gained access to her blood to create an alternative system on which to see the world. [SRTR] I think is Knowledge now locked away because 0^0's followers fervently kill anyone opposed to them. [YMRD] I think is Wisdom, now lost because the old practices are forgotten in place of the new.
4. Realizations.
Okay that's great and all, Sho but what does all this autism mean?
Well, I never did go over what 0^0 represents as a Pillar. She calls herself Causality but time and time again through the CYOA you came across capital M, Meaning. And I think that's what 0^0 ultimately represents, self-actualization. She herself learned of the God-Script and rebelled, using second hand knowledge to topple the Story over.
Now see the world through the Pillars. Story, as in a life lived with a definite end. Plot, how that life is lived, World, how the world has shaped the story and how they've shaped the World. And Meaning, did they manage to find Meaning in their life? Once I thought of life this way, like a meta novel almost, suddenly it didn't seem so crazy anymore.
That's the main observation and the second one relates to this.
Take into account what the video says "By the Grace of God or by his Knowledge can you escape the Labyrinth."
[JNPL] is ascension through Grace, [SRTR] is ascension through Knowledge, [YMRD] is ascension through Wisdom and 0^0 is ascension through Stolen Knowledge and Self-Actualization.
In this analogy, Grace would simply mean peacing out like a force ghost. The physical walls may be there but they really arn't.
Knowledge would be research into the nature of the world, studying different religions and philosophy and fitting the pieces together to see how the meta-physical world works, even if you can't see it. The walls are there and you can find a way around them.
Wisdom would be seeing the bigger picture, one corner of the Labyrinth, then a section, then the whole thing itself before you simply walk yourself out. You've seen the Labyrinth a thousand times before, a thousand and one is enough to get you through.
Stolen Knowledge is perhaps the most dangerous, because not only do you have incomplete notes, they could even be wrong. It's perhaps the quickest way to get out of the Labyrinth. But that's where the Self-Actualization comes in, you can use what little knowledge you have to build up yourself another set of notes that will see you out. The walls look familiar but I can get out of here, essentially.
And that's how you can escape the cycles of guilt/our hell of a world, essentially.
TL;DR:
This CYOA tickled my autism and made me think about the nature of existence and what lies for us beyond, no matter how the Story might end. It also makes me think how the Story/world could be reset, according to the CYOA, it's not the first time [JNPL], [SRTR] and [YMRD] have reset their world because it turned out bad.
Reddit thread with builds and some more philosophy posting, even going into the God-Script and the Numerology that 0^0 uses. Like I said, I'm barely scratching the surface here.
