I do have to say, as someone who is an ethnic Yankee, but spent some time in the South as a child, I am not sure where the idea of an idealized Southerner comes from. The only reason I don't shit on you is because I know what nuance is. But northerners have their problems, southerners have their problems, meh, pick your poison. Can you point to some specific example of a would be carpetbagger idealizing Real Southern culture?

Channeling the mindset of a retarded A&H sort, my guess is because they identify with them as anti-establishment rebels who don't adhere to PC culture. They had black people as slaves and didn't tolerate them fags, or something, and they love their guns and cars and a simple traditional way o' life. They don't tolerate aborshun, they tell them kids about abstinance, they're wholesome gawd fearin' folk.

Obviously that's fucking retarded, these mostly tend to be fat low IQ welfare leeches, addicts, and teen mothers who probably got pregnant as teens because that's when they peaked, even though numbers indicate a good portion of pregnancies in these areas are with a father who was over age 25. Up until WWII the north and south still fucking hated each other, and in the south they basically lived in shacks with no floors in them, kids running around barefoot, places lacked indoor plumbing, they lived like cavemen.

Plus black slave owners back in the day were the bourgeoisie of the time, none of the poor southerners owned slaves. The north vs. the south was about rich elitists vs. rich elitists.

The grass is always greener. If the American south as a whole matches your values more than the north/leftists, then obviously it seems like a glorious haven. Up until the last few decades, the republican/conservative types have held the most vitriolic and controversial of opinions and were far more staunch about their identity and politics while the rest of the liberal world was relatively tame. Now we're in a situation where the insanity and retardation of the American south is actually a viable and even desirable alternative to living in liberal hive cities. With how confusing and unstable liberal spaces have become, the simplicity of good ol' boys drinkin beers n shootin guns n worshippin Jesus sounds nice. I do idolize southerners to some degree, but only because I agree with the politics and general attitudes found there, especially in comparison to where I live now. You'd have to be living under a rock to not know that the American south is a hole filled with shit, pedophiles, and meth. But the liberal world is filled with open attitudes towards diddling kids and doling out needless amputations while everyone else rots away.

Sadly enough, it's one of the more accurate shows out there. It's not exactly documentary, but a lot of the humor hits home to us in the hills.

Though if you want me to pick a scene that sums us up pretty well, it's oddly from a show about Canadians...

The place in rhe US you don't fuck is the midwest and the Central North. The more southern and eastern Midwestern states are populated by hundreds of thousands of insane whistlin diesel clones, and Wyoming/Montana/The Dakotas/Most of Minnesota and Wisconsin/Michigan are full of hardy ass mfs who actually still have to contend with a bit of a frontier, and are almost universally right wing. We're all used to weather straight from hell itself, and the region is either flat land where we can see you coming 10 miles away, mountain, or dense, dense forest.
