Additionally, some camps like Treblinka and Sobibor utilized open burn pits to handle overflow bodies. These aren’t normal cremations where you carefully make sure every bit of a single decedent body is burnt to brittle white ash and ground up. They just piled as many in as could fit in the retort. Do you think the SS cared if a few bones and pieces came out undercooked? It just went into a mass grave anyway.
I went to Buchenwald once. Before going I kind of questioned its necessity, why do the Americans love going to the camps, why do I need to go when I already have no doubts, etc. but the experience was helpful; because one can have no doubts after looking at the photos taken then, the stuff that’s still standing at the site and the smaller archaeological objects that point to tens of thousands of people being held there at one time. The evidence is fairly overwhelming and consistent. The extreme stuff is apocryphal, but considering the extreme stuff we knew for sure happened (Mengele), the mountains of hair and luggage stockpiled at liquidation camps, the brothels populated with Jewish women, does it matter? So now you've complicated your logistics even further, which is a point that is never addressed. These are basic physical needs that can't be ignored but are done routinely because it punches a big fat fucking hole in the story.
