Sony hate thread

Collectors can cope and seethe. Collectors editions are a waste of money and are for retards and redditors. All you need is the game and any dlc that comes with it.
I 95% agree with you but I'm a sucker for a game that comes with a soundtrack.

One of the very few collector's edition I have is the Ni No Kuni CE that came with a physical spellbook. It's pretty cool.

Well at the very least I can respect the soundtracks. If it’s a Vinyl or a CD I’d say that’s respectable.

TL; DR: Brand name and audience are matter.
Someone doesn't know about early SF5 release.

View attachment 3486629
Original SF5 literally only had 16 characters at release, same amount with current DNF Duel. Lackluster single player, no arcade mode, story mode for each character is 3 dumb AI matches.
Game also locks some outfits recolour behind in game money, called Fight Money. Fight Money is earned through completing story mode, or gimmick survival mode and multiplayer games.
View attachment 3486637

Game didn't even rollback netcode, horrible loading times. But the rollback netcode is added later and horribly implemented.
Unlike SF5 and Granblue Fantasy versus, GG Strive and DNF Duel actually have proper rollback netcode.

And then there were bunch of problems people complained about fighting mechanics in early years, I don't play fighting games, so I'm not commenting on that.

Total game sales over the year,
2016: 1.4 millions.
2017: 1.7 millions. 2018, no data, although this was the release of Arcade Edition.
2019: 3.7 millions
2020: 4.5 millions, being Capcom 10th best selling title. Release of Champion Edition, but still missing the latest (season 5) characters.
2021: 6 millions.
2022: 6.2 millions.

Pretty much, the early couple years weren't that great. Roughly from 2018, game becomes more decent.

Trivia: DNF, actually has an Japanese anime adaptation 2009, Arad Senki, (loosely adaptation) and two more Chinese faithful adaptions. Translation: the game is more popular in China than Japan.
In Street Fighter's case it has a large pedigree, you have Street Fighter 2 and it's assorted revisions, Street Fighter Alpha 1-3 and their revisions, Street Fighter 3 and it's revisions, Street Fighter 4 and it's DLC, while the first street fighter wasn't good(and neither were the EX games for that matter). It has a very long history of releasing a game and then later fixing and rebalancing shit later on. It also built up that reputation over decades. It's also Capcom's own IP where as DNF Duel is a licensed game and it's not from the actual publisher of Dungeon Fighter. So DNF is not guaranteed long term support like Capcom does with Street Fighter. It's a similar reason why many MMOs failed, they did not get that long term support from their publisher and that's one of the reason why WoW reigned for so long undisputed.

Street Fighter 5 sucked at launch because it had less shit than 4 and with updates gradually became better.

If anything, I thought DNF Duel looked like a Fatal Fury rip off. Though, yeah, it doesn’t help that they tried to compete with another Pokémon installment and Kirby.
More like DNF Duel released on the same week as the Sunbreaker expansion of Monster Hunter Rise if you wanna blame something within the competition

Sales numbers shouldn't be used as a metric related to the game quality anyway: there is a large amount of niche japanese games that appear at least once on the Famitsu chart on release (with final numbers popping up in the yearly Media Create paper). The thing is that they're now way more successful on the Nintendo console than on the Playstation consoles, in spite the latter used to be home for that kind of stuff.

>and with updates gradually became better.
lolno. It STILL sucked as hard as it did at launch, and still does to this day.

E-Sports censoring and DLC with product placement aside, any fighter that dumbs down the mechanics making it easier for noobs to do pro-player style combos that reward you with a free super move for getting your ass handed to you is a shitty fighting game. SF4 may have started that shit, but SFV ran the fuck with it and never looked back.

I sort of agree about getting super from receiving damage being cheap, I guess. Combos shouldn't require insane dexterity though, the skill should mostly focus on pressure, spacing, etc, not just getting major damage because you can combo.

So you agree with me that SF is already an established brand name international and has audience to back the game up? Then E-sport FGC scene to back it up with sponsoring,

It's also Capcom's own IP where as DNF Duel is a licensed game and it's not from the actual publisher of Dungeon Fighter.
About DNF Duel, DNF is also called Dungeon Fighter Online
Screenshot 2022-07-14 at 12-35-08 DNF Duel on Steam.png Screenshot 2022-07-14 at 13-50-29 Dungeon Fighter Online on Steam.png
It's just this simple search and you can see they are from same publisher. Arc System co-develops with them to make this game, not licensing. You know what game is licensed? It's Apex mobile.
I'm not gonna pretending be knowing it all about company strategy, goal, expectation and shit. But I can tell you this, DNF Duel isn't the only "spin-off" title from the main mmorpg, it's just one of their projects. Neople has a few more.
1) Project Overkill, being "sequel" for the mmo, for both PC and phones. Still side-scrolling beat em up style.

2) Project BBQ, recently being changed into project AK. A full 3D action game, rumored being Souls-like for consoles. It was supposed to be a 3D action mmorpg, but apparently with Elden Ring success they change their plan. Game is still based on DNF settings.
Mind you, 3D action mmorpg for Koreans isn't anything new, there has been a few in market like Dragon Nest, Vindictus, Continent of the Ninth Seal, Tera Online, Blade & Souls and Black Desert Online. I can get a part of their reasoning.

3) They also have mobile phone version of DNF/DFO.
Whether Duel right now is acceptable for Neople, Idk, but it may be decent enough to advertise whole franchise to current gen gamers for their upcoming games.

So DNF is not guaranteed long term support like Capcom does with Street Fighter.
Do you know there is a fighting game made by Capcom and dies "instantly"?
It's this pile of trash

Simple answer, game is horrible for many reasons, so no playerbase -> DEAD.
And look at the damning amount of dlcs, 41 in total, imagine having this much microtransaction for a crap and dead game.

Screenshot 2022-07-14 at 12-32-30 Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite on Steam.png
I like Capcom for some of their games, but not enough for me to give them a pass for their horrible monetization practice. It happens in MonHun World and even worse in Rise, actually having less character customization in Rise comparing to World. If you're considering before Arcade or Champion edition of SF5, it was also plagued with this kind of dlcs.

MH World
Screenshot 2022-07-14 at 13-07-20 Monster Hunter World on Steam.png
Minus the expansion and soundtracks, they will still be near $500.

MH Rise
Screenshot 2022-07-14 at 13-07-38 MONSTER HUNTER RISE on Steam.png
Minus the expansion, it will drop around $300 in total.

Technically, all of these are like optional cosmetics, but good lord the "creativity" to milk all these cash.
Maybe you should spend less time sucking corporate's dick or feet when not playing games, or maybe stop searching more degenerate stuff on internet to jerk off or something. Doing proper googlefu isn't hard.

Maybe you should stop being a degenerate, I'll be less likely stumble on your shit.

Throughout our company’s 27-year history, we have been continually moved by how meaningful gaming experiences can create fond, lifelong memories for players. All of us at PlayStation take special joy in creating unique products and experiences that delight our fans. This includes everything from our consoles and critically acclaimed games, to community challenges such as Seize the Throne and Treat Codes, to digital and live events including State of Play.

Today, I’m pleased to reveal PlayStation Stars, a brand new loyalty program that celebrates you, the player, for being on this ever growing gaming journey with us. PlayStation Stars will be free to join when it launches later this year. Once you become a member, you’ll earn rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities. Our “Monthly Check-In” campaign simply requires you to play any game to receive a reward, while other campaigns require you to win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even be the first player to platinum a blockbuster title in your local time zone.

All PlayStation Stars members will have opportunities to earn loyalty points. Points can be redeemed in a catalog that may include PSN wallet funds and select PlayStation Store products. As an additional benefit, PlayStation Plus members enrolled in PlayStation Stars automatically earn points for purchases on PlayStation Store.

Also, as part of PlayStation Stars, we are unveiling a new type of reward called “digital collectibles.” Collectibles are as diverse as our portfolio of products and franchises. They are digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as cherished devices that tap into Sony’s history of innovation. There will always be a new collectible to earn, an ultra rare collectible to strive for, or something surprising to collect just for fun.

We hope this new program brings to mind past gaming memories while making you excited for the future with PlayStation: commemorating the gaming eras we created together, charting new paths to explore, and bringing players together for global celebrations. This is just the beginning for PlayStation Stars, and the program will continue to evolve over time. We’re currently doing some early tests on this program before launching it later this year in phased regional rollouts.

We hope you’ll enjoy the program once it launches. We’ll be back with more updates in the future. Thanks for reading!
Sony's actually doing something kind of interesting for once, and creating a rewards program called PlayStation Stars. By earning achievements, being the first to platinum a game in your region, or simply playing your games, you can convert any Stars you earn to PlayStation wallet funds to use on the PS Store.

...Or you can spend them on stupid 3D collectible trophies that are tied to an online "trophy room" - which Sony took great care to reiterate over and over that "these aren't NFTs, they aren't tied to the blockchain, these definitely are not and will never be NFTs, we fucking SWEAR" - but, like, other than Moira, who gives a shit about that when you can just get money instead.

Also, calling it now: this will not be retroactive and ONLY tied to PS5 achievements.

Combos shouldn't require insane dexterity though, the skill should mostly focus on pressure, spacing, etc, not just getting major damage because you can combo.
Back in the SF Alpha and even SFII days, people were not only able to create their own unique combos, but also pressure and frametrap without using combos.

Now-a-days you have modern fighters that just give you a pre-set combo by mashing the light attack, so "why even do your own thing when the game is just giving you free fundamentals?" has become the new normal mindset because fuck effort and uniqueness I guess. It's bad enough the FGC has charts and guides on how you're """supposed""" to use a character, making gameplay stale and predictable.

I'm not saying you have to be like the pro players of Marvel vs Capcom 2 that just rape everyone with Magneto/Sentinel/Storm, I'm saying stop watering down the mechanis for normalfags to where even a 12 year old can be the next Daigo.

The oldfarts call them dial-a-combos for a reason.

They must water down the mechanics because it means ease of use, which in their minds translates to bigger appeal: larger sales. I don't agree with this choice but I understand the thinking behind it.

Can’t you turn those off? I haven’t played a new Street Fighter since 3DS, but I thought you could choose to play a match without touch screen combos.

The PS5 version of Gran Turismo 7 has been reappearing on the japanese Famitsu charts for a while and with decent numbers at a first glance, despite the game came out months ago. I don't know much of the franchise and @Thiletonomics is certainly more knowledgeable on the subject, but the game doesn't strike me as an evergreen title, as in the kind of game that strikes the fancy for a large amount of people (enough to be continuously sold).

Week 09 (release week): (03.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 73,399 (New)
Week 10: (08.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 10,106 (83,505)
Week 11: (19.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 4,072 (87,577)
Week 12: (24.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 3,122 (90,699)
Week 13: (20.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 2,777 (93,476)
---
Week 21: (24.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 1,265 (101,133)
Week 23: (8.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 5,080 (107,121)
Week 24: (23.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 1,370 (108,491)
Week 26: (6.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 8,169 (117,694)
Week 27: (9.) [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 7,759 (125,453)
It actually turns out the physical PS5 copy of Gran Turismo 7 is sold alongside with a brand new PS5 as part of a bundle set in Japan since late May, and a lot of them are being scalped as well. So I suspect GT7 game sales on PS5 to be inflated. And it's worth to mention the PS4 version doesn't get such numbers in comparison.

Also, the Klonoa 1+2 remake sold 8 times the number of retail copies on Switch compared to the PS4 version on the 27th week (while the PS5 version nowhere to be found on the chart).
Klonoa Switch vs PS4.jpg
The green bar shows both versions have the same percentage (~40-60%) of the shipped stock left.

When you said that I started thinking and the people I know that owns a Switch and buy games for it opted out of next-gen because they just wanted video games. In a way they're like Mac owners and that sounds bad but you have to think of what is in the messaging when a casual consumer thinks "but I just want games so I will buy the switch and games released on the switch". That's why I said Mac owners.

So, while doing my weekly grocery shopping at my local Wal-Mart yesterday, I figured it was finally time to do some investigative journalism and see if the PS5 shortage was felt in my neck of the woods. To spice things up a bit, we're going 90s console war on this bitch and comparing stock of the Big Three side by side.

First up was Bing Bing Wahoo:

Ho-lee shit. I was expecting them to fare better than the other two, but not by this much....they had every model of the Switch in stock, and they even had Animal Crossing special edition models available! Needless to say, if you are one of the casual gamers @Smaug's Smokey Hole described above, or are a Nintentard who for some unfathomable reason still hasn't bought a Switch (and have the disposable income to do so) you aren't exactly starving for choice here.

Next came the Hex-Box:
20220714_180054.jpg

Meager compared to the Switch, but still respectable. I noticed they only had the Series S, and not the Series X, but still, if you absolutely had to have the newest Xbox right then and there, the option is available to you.

And finally, the moment of truth....
20220714_180042.jpg

......lol. LMAO, even. Nary a PS5 to be found on the shelves. I actually get why Sony-ponies are coping so hard now. Not only do they have no games, they have no consoles to play those non-existent games on. Sad!

"T-T-That just means the console is selling like hotcakes and they haven't re-stocked their store shelves yet!" - Marissa Moira, probably

I see an Xbox Series S. I assume MS is going the cheaper route with manufacturing to compensate for the chips shortage. No explanation of why there's no PS5s.
