The console itself is a tablet that can either be docked for use as a home console or used as a portable device. I think it's because Nintendo owns the rights for an lot of franchises that never had an decent game that seen the light of day for quite some time and that Nintendo had at least three development teams who were tasked with making most of the Mario games.

Now that I've thought about it, this is mainly about people who are confusing the various companies that Nintendo outsource their projects to as actual employees.

Either way, Kirby usually sells well, some people hate Dread for reasons that I'm unfamiliar with, Mario will always be an printing press. As for everything else that isn't Zelda and possibly Fire Emblem or Donkey Kong, they're essentially taking an financial risk.
