WRT the 1994 AWB, it lapsed because there was language in the bill that said it would be in place for 10 years, at which point its effectiveness would be judged, and it was found to be ineffective. In fact, the 10 years following the lapse saw the lowest rates of violent crime and murder in decades.

If the Dems pick up Senate seats in November. it may have a chance, if they decide to nuke the filibuster. But it's not happening this time around.

Sure Biden could pull a Clinton and run against a 'do nothing' GOP Congress. Except that would take some degree of competence and political acumen. Seriously? Joe Biden, not just a potato nigger but a literal potato, cunning political strategist like Bill? LOL! Clinton had the best economy in the nation's history, a booming stock market, low inflation and a budget surplus. On top of all that he was targeted with a ridiculous impeachment trial from getting blown in the Oval. The only thing Biden has going for him at this point is the media, but that's a two edged sword. The MSM are about as popular as monkeypox at an AIDS convention.

Biden is not going to run again, the GOP won't impeach him (he's too useful to them) so no sympathy vote, and he'll still be blamed for all the terrible shit that's about to go down.

The only question from here is not whether the Republicans will win in 2024 but whether the GOP establishment can stop Trump winning the primary. Probably not, but it'll be fun watching them try.

It doesn't really matter who is on the Dem ticket, Biden winning proved that. Even if you put aside the concerns about cheating, Dem voters simply do not care who they are voting for, they care who they are voting against. They are motivated by hatred of conservatives. You can put a potato on the Dem ticket and they'll vote for it to make sure Republicans lose.

As far as whether Republicans can "win" the presidency in 2024, yes, it depends who is on their ticket. Donald Trump will never be allowed into the White House through normal political processes again. If it's someone else, who knows, but the same is true of any Republican candidate that the regime considers a genuine threat.

There is no one single cause because there are so many different facets of society that were breaking down at this time:

1. Lionization of the Hippies. The Boomer were in their 30s to 40s at this point and waxed nostalgia about their youth and wanted the cultural mores of the hedonistic hippies back into their lives. Now, they were reasonable in that they generally did it on their off-time, but they did slowly normalize drug use and chipped away at the stigma. The result was the decriminization of marijuana and all the black market business that comes with it.

2. Feminism going insane. Married with Children actually covered it with Marcy D'arcy and NO MAAM. The feminists had become the professors of colleges and then seeded their bizarre "stronk, independent woman who don't need no man," philosophy everywhere they possibly could. The immediate result is sexual harassment rules in the workplace and full destigmatization of divorce.

3. The grifting of the Religious Right. It was a general open secret that faith healers and the Joel Osteens type were using religion as a way to get money and sell merch. The Left held them to Christianity's standard of poverty as a virtue and called them hypocrites that kept getting in the way of people's fun. The death blow was when the Catholic Church was covering their pedo priests. The result was a slow erosion of moral authority Christianity held.

4. The collapse of the Mexican economy and subsequent immigration crisis. Both parties are at fault because they took advantage of the failing Mexican economy. Republicans saw cheap, non-union labor and Dems saw a new voter bloc to permanently turn states blue, which is what happened in California. Either way, neither were willing to regulate immigration and stabilize the Hispanic population. The failure to regulate immigration is what, I think, will lead to the decline of the US in the same way Romans let Visigoths into Rome. Cartels function as mini fiefdoms and expand into the permissive Southwest. Given how weak the US has been on this issue for the past 50 years, I only expect Cartel influence to grow, not lessen.
