That "embrace" looks perfunctory af. Like the hug your mom make you give someone who was already dead. There is no feeling, gripping, burying her head in her mom's shoulder. After complaining about the nurses having had to shave part of her mom's hair and all the blood stuck in the hair Jill forbid them to shave, Jill dragged Renee into a shared chair to warble hymns at grandma. Well, mom was basically dying, because she was no longer obeying Jill's commands to stop seizing and let Jill tease her blood matted hair and get a full face of funeral makeup on, or fake laughing when people tell her bad jokes. And everyone cried and wailed and gnashed their teeth. But then, a surgery! A dangerous surgery! For three weeks, mom will be on death's doorstep. But now a miracle! Jesus himself has made Jill's mom talk again, so basically give more monies pl0x?

Also, isn't her mom's brain damage just sooooo funny? She does such funny things now!

I would love to see her accidentally give her mom a hijab.


I don’t know much about medicine so I’m not sure what signs here are good or bad.
Also, her dad used the last of his PTO. Which I guess would put him on unpaid FMLA. Sad to still be in that position at 73. The lord will provide but you’re on your own for PTO.

Jill was just so SEVERELY disappointed with those ICU nurses for not focusing on making her mother beautimous, she marched right in there and scrubbed mom's head, brain pressure relieving port be damned! So sad that Jill must lead these sluttish nurses by her godly example.

Being able to swallow is pretty damn good. She didn't mention if she was eating puree or being fed, but swallowing is a complicated process and one we don't notice until it's gone. If there wasn't a precipitating event, like here, sometimes the first clue is aspiration pneumonia.

Weird that Jill mentioned her mom being "pleasant;" wonder if that's a change from before. Sadness or rage as she began to understand her new life wouldn't have been cute to show the Internet; only cute and infantilizing updates are allowed.

It's going to be interesting to see the "spin" on Mama's post-hospital life. Jill only knows how to post crypto-condescension about children, which is why her posts about her sister are so weird and ghoulish. A mentally-reduced dependent adult in the family; that's not something you see often in this world. Will Jill break new ground and start blogging about how her mother has the faith of a little child after her stroke, even though she did <insert heartbreaking cute and funny anecdote here>, or will Mama just never get mentioned again, until she aspirates or falls and Jill can fix up a camera-friendly room for hospice photo ops?

Fun facts! FMLA applies if they have worked for the company for at least a year, they worked at least half time during the previous year, and there are at least 50 employees. Also, WV and Ohio have at-will employment, so you can get fired if your employer doesn't like your face.

Oh well, look how well groomed mom is - courtesy of Jill! - and the doctor commented on how young mom looks, which is basically calling Jill young looking! Mom is still super confused, but it’s so CUTE and FUNNY!

Her mom actually looks younger than Jill, which has got to burn Jilly's biscuits right up.

I’ve been surprised on several occasions at how “good/well” an older relative looked in the hospital, but in all of those cases it was because they were pushing so many fluids that it plumped the wrinkles out. Is Jill’s mom really young-looking or is she just pumped full of fluid?

It seems to be partly the fluids, but she normally looks pretty good for 73 - though that hairstyle ages her up quite a bit.
