I learned by scrolling down through the media that the reason he smiles like this is because he's clearly aware of how extra horrifying he is when he opens his mouth.

A lot of the things you mention require a lot of work to fix, and some never go away entirely. The type of people you describe aren't "just" depressed, they're lacking in coping skills, borderline or actually autistic, they're in a society that does not exactly make belonging and community togetherness an easy thing to achieve. So the two "solutions" they're offered are "do a lot of work on yourself and learn coping skills and maybe you'll start to improve your situation in a year or two, but you'll probably never feel entirely at ease or normal" or "you're a girl! Just order some HRT and put on a dress!"

Of course, the idea of trooning out being a quick fix is a lie, and the initial euphoria fades off.... but they convince themselves they just need one more procedure, or session of voice training, or a sexy lesbian partner to ease their dysphoria, and then it will work.

And when none of that works, they morph into the "depressed troon" stereotype you see more and more all over Twitter these days. They still look like men, repulse lesbians, have lost any normal friends or hobbies they once had, but still won't admit they were wrong about the source of their problems. Granted, you do need to convince an employer you aren't completely useless, but it is not hard to immigrate to Canada. I love how he says "Western" countries, as if immigrating to South Africa or China was super easy. My theory for FtMs is that they're self-conscious about their height and want to overcompensate by artificially inflating their confidence. At the same time, though, they don't want to come off being especially butch while female, and thus identify as male in order to feel more comfortable with the false personas they've made. The opposite might be true for MtFs, in that their height gives them a sense of confidence that FtMs might lack. Thus we see more of one than the other.

Right, but the issue is that he doesn't want to have to do anything to move to Canada. Even the easy forms of emigration are a long process, and there's all kinds of uncertainty and hoops to jump through and a lot of stuff you have to do that isn't just taking estrogen and wearing dresses.

He has fallen into the mindset that since his problems haven't been solved by being trans, nothing can possibly work. Because if his current situation might be improved by getting a job, what else might be improved by getting a job? His dysphoria? His depression? No, those problems are all the result of him being trans, remember? Therefore, getting a job cannot possibly help. He's trapped in this cycle, and he can't get out without questioning the beliefs he's built his whole identity around.

Autogynephiles are also more likely to hold powerful positions in society, particularly in “masculine” occupations like tech and the military.
