Maybe now, but I honestly think you're overestimating their net worth at the time in which ILJ was growing up. Don't get me wrong, ex navy seal/pilot/fed are all great to have on a resume, but they don't bring in the kind of money you would need to have a nanny litterally raise your child. Mike was already out of the service by the time Bella was born. Her parents divorced in like 2005-6 and there was a custody arrangement until 2017(?) when Mike got full custody.
Mike had his own security company since at least mid 2000s before transitioning into cybersecurity, and he literally was contracted by the US military during the Iraq war for a sum of 271.8 million dollars (proofs), it's safe to say that he has been very rich since Bella's childhood.

This post says that Mike only had weekend and summer custody until the 2017 emergency custody transfer. Mike wasn't quite absent, but still, it means that Bella spent most of her adolescence in her mother's house.
The opposite has been my observation. Not to PL too much, but my dad was in the military, and I'm in an area with a lot of veterans, and every guy I've interacted with that has been in the military has been obsessive about keeping their stuff/house clean. Again, this is just my observation, so ymmv. Maybe I just live in an area with a lot of clean freaks, idk.
The Navy really forces neatness down your throat from day 1 of boot camp. You even have to iron your tighty whities.
I think you're being generous with the "left to servants" part. Unless, by servants you mean "left to be raised by chan boards, Liveleak, rotten.com, deviant art, discord". Athena was off piloting around the world, and I bet Bella was left home alone at a fairly early age. Free to roam the city ( did she go to high school in NYC? I forget) and the darkest corners of the Internet with zero guidance.

I believe that's his wife's house. It could be both of theirs, though. I think she also has some kind of condo in New York. I don't think we've actually done a deep dive on both of them and what they own jointly or as part of the marital estate. They're pretty evidently loaded, though, and both independently wealthy.
