Pokemon Lolcows

There seems to be this obsession in the fandom lately with trashing GSC and HGSS by both old and new fans. A lot of it is from general contrarianism and 3D era fans who hate seeing people liking anything prior to gen 6. 3D era fans and contrarians also like to bash other popular older games like BW/BW2 and Platinum but lately their hate boner has zeroed in on the Johto games.

I don't know much about the OP of those tweets but they’re probably a contrarian or a troll.
Contrarian spergs who think gen 2 and especially HGSS have had it too good for too long. I don't know how common it is now but before the 3D games it was common to think Gen 2 was the best generation, and HGSS is best remake.

Outside of, well, autism; I can't really see how people can get worked up over the older games. HGSS is reasonably good; sure it's an little bit on the short side (with it being an remake and all), but I was blown away that I could explore the Kanto region instead of just dicking around in the Battle Frontier, again.
In the case of 3D era fans it’s spite from what I’ve seen. They get mad when people criticize the 3D games so they retaliate by bashing the older ones to stick it to “toxic genwunner/fiver/twoer/etc. stans.”

pchaltv/Jan absolute goldmine for lolcow moments. He claims he is bipolar (self-diagnosed, of course) but he is only narcissistic and
has a comically overgrown amount of self-importance. Maybe he has some Johto thwauma because he loses his secretly done Gen 2 Nuzlockes to Miltank. I haven't seen him ever showing any humility apart from going into the opposite self-concept of turning from a god-like appearance to a whiny crybaby (and backwards) in the matter of seconds. Does he have his own hater-base yet?
Him Bitching about Pokemon clover is always gold (no Gen 2 pun intended) and for those who don't know, you get unironically banned if you ask him to play it. To say the Clover incident was his JULAY moment would be exaggerating, but it comes close and this insult still haunts Jans illusion de grandeur up to now.

Ok which one of you exceptional individuals took KF posting to Pokémon Showdown and lost?

This guy I once enjoyed to watch because he is a tactical genius and has a good sense of delivering suspense and fun with sound effects and such. But he uses a kids game to push gay agenda into peoples faces and also he posted too much furry shit about "Daddy Incineroar" and this kind of stuff so i canceled my sub. When he got more popular he started showing more and more vanity and egoism.
Every time somebody criticized him for his obsessions, he stopped doing videos because of mEnTaL hEalTh
He ist not a dick like Jan and probably a nice person all around but the constant demanding to get treated like a princess on the internet is what makes him a cow and gives his videos always a bad taste. Feels like if he only does this to cope with evil transphobic people and not for fun.

Can he code? I'm assuming he's unemployed but I want him to have a job if he truly lives on Gibs alone

I watched PokemonChallenges's video on why Generation 2 is the worst. While his points about the below average Pokedex and the level curve are true, some of his criticisms are just absurd.
  • He spends an entire segment sperging about why Feraligatr is literally the worst thing ever becase ... he doesn't like how its name is spelled.
  • He complains about the 'constant' phonecalls from NPCs, which he absolutely blows out of proportion. They don't even call that frequently, and you can just delete their numbers anyways.
  • He shits on both Johto and Kanto for their lack of depth, even though he's perfectly aware of the memory limitations of a GameBoy Color game.
  • He then mocks the rival for being an "edgelord" which is really interesting, since that appears to be his entire brand on Twitch/YouTube.

If I recall correctly, he studied traffic engineering in university. Presumably, that involves some programming.

It's not like there isn't a bunch of shit you can criticize Gen 2 for. Here's some examples:
  1. Almost all of the new pokemon that are actually worth using are locked in Kanto and Mt. Silver while you're stuck with horseshit like jumpluff and ledian for half of the game. Even the stuff that isn't like the Donphan and Ursaring lines mostly come in underleveled.
  2. The Gym Leaders mostly use Kanto pokemon even when they have perfectly good Johto mons of their respective types they could be using instead. I'm not asking for much here but half of the Johto gym leaders don't actually use Johto pokemon. Its kind of funny.
  3. The game offers the illusion of choice by letting you decide if you want to do the Mahogany Gym first or if you want to go to Olivine or Cianwood instead but any rational person who is replaying the game is going to go for Cianwood first so you get fly.
  4. Gen 2 was the point where the HM problem started to really take root with moves like Whirlpool and Waterfall added to the mix,
If you're going to be this autistic about Pokemon at least do it properly.

I haven't played Gen 2 outside of the remakes, but this feels like something that the gym leaders lineup was established while they were still designing the mons. But I'll need to look into what teams that most of the trainers have, first.

r/pokemoncirclejerk is insufferable as usual. What the fuck do they think pedophilia is? Because it certainly isn't a fucking costume swap with in-game characters.View attachment 1702060

This is late, but the mods there eventually decided to give up on the subreddit, and locked it permanently:

I'm not sure if it's much of a loss though, given how the future of the franchise still looks questionable.

The only Gym Leader in Johto who uses a Pokemon unobtainable within Johto is Whitney, with her Clefairy. Every other Pokemon that the Gym Leaders in Johto use are obtainable in Johto. Not much of an issue

Fair, but I think it would have been cool for some of the Johto leaders to use more of the respective Pokemon from that region.

For instance Bugsy doesn't use a Heracross, Scizor, Forretress or even a Yanma (they could still make you fight an under leveled version of Forretress if they wanted you to) when you fight him for the first time, which is a shame because even though he's the second gym leader and normally they aren't that hard in most games, he's just far too easy with only the harden bug duo and a u-turning Scyther that you can even beat him with a Bayleef if it's at a high level.

He's not the only one of course, this was in the early era where they didn't really give a lot of gym leaders strong movesets or well rounded teams to counter a major weakness or focus on an actual strategy, we wouldn't see that till about Gen 5 really.

HGSS and gen 2 are great, but the levelling feels like pulling teeth due to the poor level curve, which makes it a pain to replay. I can see that being a fair complaint for HGSS, but otherwise that remake added a ton of features that the same spergs that shit on this game beg to return and be implemented properly in a new mainline game (mainly being following pokemon, but also a different kind of competition other than contests or battling that the pokeathlon provided.)

I imagine a lot of the zoomers that shit on gen 2 do so because of the fact its plot isn't as main of a crux to the gameplay loop and its a plot without the box legend woven into it unlike in DPPt, gen V, and SuMo/USUM. Which, honestly, I think fits well as you can draw parallels to the legendaries fucking off and only being worshipped by a given few with the pathetic state of team rocket clamouring for any response from Giovanni after he went MIA at that time. It's also the fact that gen 1 and 2 just... were more about exploration/wandering around than being plot driven like the newer games, and baby autists think that games that dont fit their preferred style of game are just Objectively Bad rather than just not a good fit for the individual's wants.

But they do use Pokemon from the Johto region. They just don't use a whole lot of new Pokemon. That's what you probably mean
The new Pokemon introduced in Gen 2 weren't really meant to stand-out from the already-existing cast from the previous generation. They were just supposed to be some new Pokemon that were just kinda there. Not necessarily "Johto Pokemon" from the "Johto region", like how a lot of fans like to treat it. Game Freak wouldn't start making a big deal about the new Pokemon of each new generation, until the release of Ruby and Sapphire. That's why Gen 2 Pokemon aren't prominently featured in Gen 2, as counterintuitive as it may sound

tbh, I kinda prefer it this way. The way modern Pokemon games emphasize new Pokemon just seems kinda forced to me

Also, Gen 5 was when Gym Leaders/Boss Battles started going downhill, imo. Despite it being my favorite generation, Gen 5 started the trend of Gym Leaders only having a maximum of three Pokemon, and Elite 4 members only having four Pokemon. Often with movesets containing less than four moves, and a lack of items. Also doesn't help that they made the AI in recent games more retarded. That, combined with forcing Exp-All on your team just makes the recent games mindnumbingly easy. Even for the game's target demographic of retarded kids who just want to play on they smartphone apps and shit
Imo, the Pokemon game with the best Gym Leaders was Emerald. The Gym Leaders in that game actually felt like a challenge you had to prepare for, since they were given good Pokemon/movesets you would have to look-out for

I sperged-out like hell on this post, but I'm just kinda disappointed with the current state of this franchise, and I think it has way more potential than what Game Freak is doing with it. Nowadays, I mostly just play romhacks, and I rarely bother with the official games. With the last official games I bought being Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Though, I may buy Legends: Arceus, at some point. Just because the concept is actually pretty novel, even if the game itself is supposedly a giant mixed-bag. I'd still support it over the current mainseries status-quo

Ironically Zoomers resent the shit out of Gen 4 and especially 5 because of their popularity. They don’t hate older games (including gen 4 and 5) because they don’t fit their play style, they hate them because they’re popular and well liked. Alola and Galar stans are the worst with it. You can’t even say you miss the 2D pixel art without them dog piling you.

As for gen 2 I actually don’t like the reasoning some fans have for them being rare or why they aren’t used much by gym leaders. When I play a new Pokemon game I want to try out the new Pokemon and go in blind trying out new teams. If I wanted a team full of Kanto Pokemon I’d go back to playing RBY. Also some of the most memorable fights I’ve had in the games come from trainers and gym leaders using new Pokemon and not knowing what attacks they would use. I remember going in mostly blind for RSE and getting my ass kicked by Winona’s Altaria. Also the rarity of gen 2 Pokemon kind of hurt’s Johto’s identity, there’s a reason people make jokes about it being West Kanto. They don’t have to be everywhere but still.

The games have a bit of sequelitis in hindsight. I remember when they came out it seemed like they really wanted to emphasize the new starters, but some wild pokemon had a feel of "hey remember your old favorites? They're still heeeere!" That wasn't true for everything since a lot of the new normal-types and some of the always-picks like flaaffy were in the wild instead of old ones, but in some areas it's more apparent than others.

Joe Merrick seething over Scarlet/Violet leaks a few days after his wedding
Oh the man's married now? Congrats to him, then. I remember when the forum mods were poking fun of him potentially becoming a 40-year-old virgin.

Still is a whiny bitch, though, but I suppose some woman out there was desperate enough to stick with him.
