Absolutely, but the only people I can think of that claim drugs are good for your health are the pharmaceutical industry and white guys with dreadlocks.
It goes further than just health. My uncle developped schizophrenia since he carried the requisite genes to be affected that way. It destroyed his life and also had a tremendous impact on his son's quality of life since he effectively lost his father. It had a negative impact on society at large tgat now needed to pay for his healthcare and disability benefits (Canada). Oftentimes, the negative externalities of drug use go much farther than just fucking up the person's health.

That's something I always wondered about. Why is it always weed that people a pushing for legalization and not, say, an upper like cocaine? The former gave us smelly dreadlock, horrifying patchouli oil, and terrible Seth Rogan comedies while the later gave us the 80s.

We will deadass have customers/clients/whatever show up at 8 AM reeking of weed. They'll stink up the entire lobby.

"It's not addictive!!1!!"

This is pretty much California already. Do you want every state to be California? Vote no on federal legalization.

Bonus fun California fact : a lot of the dispensaries in the emerald triangle test for weed during employment screenings and dumb people learning about this the hard way and immediately bitching in local Facebook groups is never ever not funny.

E: CA is also beyond "It's not addictive" and stoners generally go with "well I only use <amount indicating very high tolerance> a day"

Blow is more dangerous.

And give it time. Remember when they said they weren't handing out taxpayer-funded crack pipes, only to be caught lying? And instead of admitting they are enabling crackheads, they've rebranded it as "harm reduction"?

They will soon claim that an epidemic of kids being abducted by the tweakers they created is just a "right-wing conspiracy theory" that "discriminates" against "the chemically disabled" and "undocumented pharmacists".

*Never* bet against Meat Target's Law.

I love how one of the most common argument stoners make for why it isn't addictive is
"ITS NATURAL MAN IT GROWS ON THE GROUND"
motherfucker where do you think tobacco comes from? particle accelerators?
>Nah, man BIG TOBACCO has PERVERTED it with, like, GENETIC ENGINEEERING, man.
Some stoner, probably.
I don't mind legalization, but FFS, stop trying to take my cigarettes, or worse, try to take the healthier (or at least not yet proven to be worse) alternatives to "save the children"

Tobacco and alcohol have done far more damage to society than some stupid fucking plant people are smoking.

I'd rather have marijuana be legalized on a state by state basis than some overarching federal legalization pushed by dems with awful "racial equity" poison pills baked into it that screw everyone over.
I definitely want it to be regional. Outright prohibition obviously won't work but having less weed in some states works a lot like dry counties. You don't need to have all the negatives of the drug right in your backyard.

Edit: also bourbon is amazing and you are all wrong for liking the wrong drugs.

If you can't tell the difference in dangers associated with weed and cocaine, you'd make a great DEA agent. The last time I can recall their head speaking in front of congress, they were unable to admit that marijuana was less toxic than heroin.

Drug use does create problems that carry over onto society, but that falls into the sugary soda debate. "If people are all diabetic and fat, the social costs of health-care will go up. Banning soda will reduce that financial burden on society." Not subsidizing health-care would also achieve that goal but nobody is ready to start stripping the feds of power they delegated to themselves based on nothing.

Well, federalism is racist and stuff. It has to be NY/DC/LA/SF's way or the highway. The mayo ghouls aren't allowed to govern their own affairs, because it might hurt someone's feefees.

I don't want to go too deep on this generational divide but there are cultural differences between the generations. The better question to ask would be what was the culture like before the Boomers took the reins, during and after. I don't see things like zoning laws, attitudes to further education funding and (ever growing) corruption in politics as unrelated. There is a "Boomer" mindset, it's just that the mindset is certainly not held by all or possibly even a majority.

Millennials aren't going to be much better either. The influx of woke shit into every aspect of our lives has a lot to do with our cohort entering middle/senior management. As The boomers can be blamed as a cohort for the shit @Ruin mentioned we can be blamed for this woke shit. So I'm happy to through shit, but there's plenty that can be thrown back.
Hate to get all pedantic who am i kidding, not really but Zoning laws have been around since at least the 19th Century in the US and generally have some value in terms of health and safety and upholding property values, but I get your point. Thankfully my parents and most people i know of that generation aren't stereotypical boomers, so I don't have as much resentment towards them. if anything, most of my ire is towards Gen X and my fellow Millennials.

I don't want any legislation banning drugs, just social pressure to not take it to excess. If you can be a dunctional member of society, no issue there. If we gotta collectively bail your ass, drop the habit and get your shit together. I think it's achievable without getting the state involved but not in our current degenerate culture.

For the cocaine thing, I'm just very suspicious of medical claims about how dangerous some things are. I know for a fact that steroids have a reputation blown wayyyyy out of proportion based on a sports ergogenic help class I had in university. When you hear how bullshit most of what you heard about "X" is, it really makes you think about "Y" and "Z" afterwards. I'm completely open to being wrong about it though.

I think that's overthinking it. I think he picked Pence because Pence looked like a VP right out of Central Casting. He wasn't going to overshadow the boss, which is what you want in a number 2 guy. That he turned out to be a snake is just because Trump underestimated the swamp. I think we all did though, I'm massively politically cynical and I didn't think it was as bad as it ended up being.

Who here thought that if the Republicans won a come-from-behind victory with a dark horse candidate, they, not the Democrats, the Republicans, would have him investigated for treason based on transparently fake evidence? I knew the GOP hated winning, but I never in a million years thought they hated winning so much they'd metaphorically saw their dicks off without anesthetic just to get back to second place.

Just part of the Neoconservative-Populist power struggle currently going on in the Republican Party.

Pretty much, Trump giving his blessing to specific candidates in each state is, if anything an attempt to smuggle a third new party by devouring the carcass left of the GOP that's guarded by old vultures

The GOP is the Washington General, they're not meant to win, they're just upholding their end of the deal. I just didn't think it was 90% of them.

Zoning used to be a tool to improve overall (urban) well-being and plan future development so it works better.

Today, zoning is permanent. Rezoning anything whatsoever is incredibly difficult because everyone seems to love their low density single family homes and cars [but not other people's cars] and will fight to absurd lengths to make sure nothing ever changes where they live. Commuting from increasingly faraway exurbs has long been the pressure valve for building new homes for people to live in, but with rising costs of living, this becomes doubly as expensive to do. Plus, there's more and more urban regions where there's just no room to fit faraway exurbs actually within commuting distance.

Society does better if people can afford to live close by their work and other daily and weekly destinations if they so desire. Most people have no fundamental need to drive around massive distances just to do their daily chores, it's simply forced by zoning. Zoning has become a beast that ensures future development works worse, destroying wealth and opportunities.

Biden may actually have Covid, but I doubt it, personally.

The last few weeks have been catastrophic for his presidency. First you have the Hunter leaks, and then you have gaffe after gaffe after gaffe, which of course in nothing new, but it's now happening at such an accelerated rate that even DNC backed media can't cover for it anymore. I seriously don't think he's managed a single public appearance in the last month where he didn't generate more negative PR and shine a spotlight on his deteriorating mental state, with the latest being his accidentally admitting to having cancer, regardless of whether it's actually true or just another one of his demented ramblings.

Topping all of that off is a disastrous trip to SA that accomplished nothing, and probably further deteriorated our relations with their leadership at a time when they're our only hope of releasing a bit of pressure on our gas prices (absent a complete 180 on domestic oil production policy from the current admin, of course.)

They're probably just taking him out of the spotlight while they figure out just what the hell it is they're going to do about him.

"Fuck it, I'll just get my stuff from Bob like always or grow it myself. Cheaper."
I'm a firm subscriber to Option 2 - grow it myself. I don't trust shit off the streets these days and I grow organically and KNOW it's never been sprayed with any bug killer or other shit. The prices at the weed pharmacies are insane -- $80-$120 for few grams of bud. I can get 20 quality fem hybrid seeds for less than that. Growing it is legal here and fun and is just one addition to all the fruits and veggies I already grow. Not particularly a stoner, but it does help on those days my arthritis flares up or my bum knee decides it's going to throw pain waves and make me miserable. Put up like a dozen jars of Bruce Banner in Mason jars in my pantry last season of some very fine bud. Just like I can sauerkraut, pickles, and make my own sausage. I give it away to family and friends, but have never even tried to sell it. Everybody that's tried it says it's great. Trying OG Kush this year and so far, so good.
