Texas doesn't have a state income tax. Much of that is made up through the property tax so Texas does have higher property taxes. I'm not too familiar with Illinois and Cook County but I"m betting the city has pretty high taxes. She paid just over $6100 last year.

Taxes are high in the city of Chicago, but some of the suburbs have higher property taxes. There is a tax on everything else though. 10.25% sales tax, 5% flat income tax regardless of income, high gas taxes, parking is obscenely expensive because of the taxes, etc. The only thing not taxed is retirement income.

I’m guessing she’s either moving to far north Chicago (Rogers Park, Edgewater) or somewhere far west if she’s actually getting a house. I would laugh if it’s in the south side (like Englewood).

She’s one of those people that values family reunification above all else, even if there was a good reason the kids were taken from their family in the first place. over time you'd probably have to be caning about 8g a day for months on end
