stray - you can play as a fucking cat

Actually, you can claw vertical surfaces.
Not like this

This basically just made me want a less pretentious cat simulator type game. A stray cat in an open city block where you can explore it thoroughly and get into cat shenanigans is an untapped goldmine.

I dunno, like Shenmue with cats or something.
Game isn't at all pretentious but yeah same.
The extensive use of extreme environmental lights and colour grading reminded me of Maneater, and that game in contrast does an amazing job of making you feel like a motherfucking monster shark just through the control scheme.

I'm sure we'll get a wave of catgames now, hopefully one or two get the behaviourism stuff right beyond just the batman powers everyone's complaining this game lacks.

It could be pretty fun since cats are basically parkour machines and everybody shoves parkour into everything nowadays.

Combat would also be fun.

Sketch for cat game:
1) You're either a tomcat or a queen
2) Food and water meter
3) As a tomcat, you score points by getting kills (hunting), killing rivals and their kittens, mating, territorial control, and exploration
4) As a queen, you score points by getting kills (hunting), killing rivals kittens, successfully raising kittens, and exploration
5) You spend points on cosmetics/cat breeds, like a car game where you unlock different cars
6) Tomcat and queen gameplay are kind of similar (patrolling around), difference being tomcats are a little more geared towards fighting (over queens), while queens play a defensive/management game (choose good location to hide your kittens, bring them food and little snakes to beat up on, defend them from predators, teach them how to hunt)
7) Cats, like many animals, instinctively feed on plants when they're sick. So there should be plants you can find around the world that give you buffs/cure debuffs, and of course things like catnip. Half of these should be in suburban gardens so that you can deal with fleeing from irate humans. Also, cats shit in soil because it covers the scent, so having good pooping spots should be useful for avoiding predators. (Even in cities there's tons of things around that potentially threaten cats.)
8) Cats also have a habit of crawling up into undercarriages of cars then getting carried off, against their will. For game purposes that could be a pretty nifty way of getting around fast.

If people are too pissy about a game where you have cats fighting each other to the death, then they don't need to have a cat game. But if people are real sissies (and TBH I'd feel pretty upset killing a cat) then they could just kill voles and run around.

I mean, there's a game called Tokyo Jungle that is basically this/Tier Zoo: The Game, just with every animal, like monkeys and crocodiles and stuff. So it's not a stretch to imagine a game specifically built around the moveset of a small, fast, agile climber (coons would be excellent for this too, they're basically just cats crossed with bears with thumbs), presumably set in something like a small town where you can play both more dense residential areas and stretches of wilderness and farmland with interesting animals with lots of interiors to explore. (If you get trapped as an indoor cat you can still fuck around indoors, but unless you find a way out, you're not going to have much opportunity to score points, and if you get neutered then you're just fucked.)

I'll quit my day job and start a Kickstarter

It was super relaxing to play until the motion sickness hit like a train. I've never gotten sick from playing a game before.

The gimmick is interesting, though I think I'd be more interested if it was a bit more "3rd person Mirror's Edge but cat."

Might pick it up as a gift for my sister come her birthday though. She likes cute animals.

There's also a reticule you can turn on in the options menu (which is pointless so they must have put it there specifically for the genetic dead weights dragging the species down like u who get motion sick)

Looks like it could be fun. I'll probably wait until the next Steam sale if I buy it. I generally only buy games when there's a sale on. I'm Jewy that way.
why wait?

there's always a sale somewhere, and sometimes even before launch (GMG often has a 10/15% off before launch, which might even work with a voucher).

This is going to be the future of this game right? I know it. It looks comfy asf but I know the fanbase and the journos will ruin it.
FOTM, next month there will be something else to shill and consume.

Sketch for cat game:
just give me an adventure game similar to felidae, that's gonna ruffle some feathers fur

whole movie's up on youtube if anyone cares

have you tried turning the motion blur off? I find that always helps with motion sickness

I'll try these out. Thanks for the suggestions.

I pirated this last night not expecting anything but I've been having fun with it.

Its a nice game to chill out and relax with. It has tons of atmosphere, getting to know all the different robots and watching how the story unfolds is pretty immersive. It's original which is most important to me unlike the generic fps's everyones used to. The environment is beautifully crafted.

Its puzzles aren't too hard but it'll keep you busy for a bit and makes it easy for non gamers to pick up but great for seasoned veterans as well. Again its a good way to unwind and the characters are easy to empathize with. The pacing seems great so far. Can't really complain.

It isn't woke tranny faggot shit at all. Just a cat trying to get back to his friends on the surface with a bunch of robots in an underground hellscape. The only thing cutsie about the game is the kitty itself which just works in this case. Lots of exploring, lots of lore, the robots are likable and have personality (even if they're all depressed.) I recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new and different. 8/10 so far in my books.

How much would you pay to play it tho?

I got it on my sony subscription but I remember thinking as soon as I was done "yeah that woulda been worth the thirty bucks or whatever".

Game is basically Half-Life If He A Cat; the Valve design school influences are strong throughout. The easy puzzles have that same distinct feel of being cool puzzles that were borderline compromised by obsessively rounding the edges down for the benefit of retards... but still highly polished and fun. There's one enemy in particular that shows up in the later ones that impressed me with how well they nailed the difficulty/tension balance such that they still feel threatening even if you don't suck at games.

If you want a game to beat in one long sitting while drunk and on mushrooms I can recommend it anyway
