The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Naughty Dog is giving people less and less reasons why you should play thier games and not every cutscene from the game on youtube like a movie (even though they've been trying to be movies since the PS3.)
TLOU served as a stepping stone for action adventure games in much the same way Street Fighter 1 did for fighters.

It was a culmination of what they learned in the 3 Uncharted games. There's many titles that took similar ideas from Uncharted and TLOU and either copied them or refined them. But much like Street Fighter one at this point it's gameplay systems are outdated and other games have done it better. Take for example, when was the last time a quick time event has popped up in order to progress in a game? That type of stuff is long gone at this point. I don't even think Forbidden West used those, they had flashing or glowing weakpoint signifiers but those are very traditional game mechanics.

Naughty dog games are very small in scope, which is something that Ghosts of Tsushima, Horizon, and GOW are not. They took what worked from Uncharted/TLOU and left what didn't.

Finally, the journalists can beat their first game.
Honestly, the TLOU series seems to hit every note that journalists love (cinematic, extremely accessible, heavy focus on a dark and tragic story, LGBT themes, movie-like presentation, self-serious, etc). It's no wonder it keeps on getting such high acclaim from them. Druckmann really knows how to fish for those awards.

I wonder if Naughty Dog is in deeper doggy doodoo than what we expect, given that a Fortnite x The Last of Us collaboration is possibly in the works. And what other stuff will be retconned here, just like how the Palpatine saying he's returning happened in Fortnite, but wasn't in RoS.

Oh great, now we're gonna get Gigantor with a golf club, aren't we?

Jesus. Nothing says “this is a franchise which doesn’t need to be taken seriously” like inclusion in Fortnite. Press a button to make Joel floss!

I thought it was cancelled because of "low" reviews
It sold about the same as ghost of sushi, but ghost of sushi was 10bait. Sony seems to only want exclusives that bait 10's from metacritic
well:
Despite mixed reviews, Days Gone was the best-selling physical game in the United Kingdom in the week of release.[70] It went on to be the best-selling software release in all the format sales charts for three consecutive weeks.[71][72] In Japan, Days Gone outsold two other PlayStation 4-exclusive games at launch, God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.[73] Days Gone exceeded the lifetime Japanese sales of God of War and The Last Guardian, another exclusive PlayStation 4 game.[74] In the first three days after its launch, Days Gone sold approximately 114,319 physical units.[75]

In North America, Days Gone was the second-best-selling video-game software for April 2019, behind Mortal Kombat 11, making it the 7th-highest debut in sales for a Sony-published title, and the best-selling game developed by Bend Studio.[76] By June 2019, Days Gone was the eighth-best-selling video game of the year.[77] It was the 19th-best-selling game of 2019 in the US.[78] According to game director Jeff Ross, Days Gone sold more copies than all of Bend Studio's previous games combined.[79]

In January, 2022, game director, Jeff Ross, claimed on Twitter that the game had sold over 8 million copies by late 2020.[80] However, this stat was disputed by several gaming outlets.[81]

wouldn't be surprised that it sold more than TLOU2 at this point...

Soooooo....it's definitely happening, then?
It would be if we were living in a rational timeline, but I guess Sony took the mixed reviews too personally.

It's backwards logic. high sales indicate a demand for more Days Gone, and a sequel could be used to improve upon the groundwork of the original (assuming a lot of the grievances were sound instead of incompetence on the journalist's part, frankly it seems that the audience was far more positive about it).

EDIT: Thought he replied to the guy talking about Days Gone, I suck some times.
