Sony hate thread

That's what annoyed me the most about the PS3. It's like they were schizophrenic and couldn't stick to just ONE model, but had to make like 15 bajillion different version of the fucker, the later ones REALLY trying to push that Blu-Ray shit like it was the greatest technology ever made.

The first PS3 that could play both PS1 and PS2 games was fucking perfect. All they had to do was stick to that stucture and make it "the ultimate playstation system" while allowing for manual hardware upgrades (specifically a better HDD), and they would have been making fucking BANK. Hardcores could customize it however they wanted while the casuals had a fuck-ton of games, specifically back-catalog of stuff, they could play from if they didn't want to venture into the new shit.

But IMO this was the time where Sony lost their way and started doing stupid shit that lead them to the position they are in now.
BluRay did pay off because of its quality and storage over DVD.

Sony backed out of native backwards compatibility from earlier PS3s to cut costs. What I don't understand is why earlier PS3s had all those ports in front of it.

I heard the reason they got rid of the PS2 backwards compatibility in the PS3 was that those early models were super prone to overheating and cooking themselves to death. Still, they should’ve figured out how to improve the cooling system instead of stripping the feature out though.

Maybe the Emotion Engine chip produced too much heat and Sony couldn't figure out how to remedy it quickly. PS3s and 360s were horrible with cooling themselves until much later.

They've always done that. The original PSX had that massive fucking parallel port and the PS2 had a PCMCIA port, both of those were removed in later models.

That sounds like something I have missed entirely, please tell me.

(message sent from a Panasonic Q)
It didn't really go unused like the Playstation ones, but I never got a GBA Player or whatever else these ports were used for (modems?) so they just became 13 year old mes folded up porn printout stash. I also used my fat PS2 expansion port for this before I traded it for a slim.

but I never got a GBA Player
I did. Was worth the purchase. The scrolling on the GBA player was smoother than the choppyness that would sometimes (or most of the time) happen when playing a game.

Also, it's playing handheld games on a big tv, what's not to like about it?

Just lmao if you never got a GBA player when they were being clearanced for pennies. Then again I've discovered plenty of people didn't bother with the GBA or its iterations.

By the time of the second PS3 slim, you didn't have to wait for heat failure, as several batches came fried out of the box, brand new. PS3 was a goddamn shipwreck all throughout.

It wasn't that, it was the retarded insistence to use a shitty heat spreader on the RSX chip that causes over heating and creates quantum tunneling on the PS3 board. PS3 slims suffer this problem as well l, but it's less pronounced due to the smaller fab process for those. I believe the PS3 super slim gets rid of the spreader completely so they aren't affected at all

If I had, I would have bought one. I only ever saw them at full price or in Gamecube bundles, and then just one day they disappeared

I remember getting my GBA player for dirt cheap second hand. It was complete in box as well. GameCube stuff in general got really scarce shortly after the Wii's success because of its backwards compatibility.

Yeah, I missed out on getting a Memory Card 1019 too, though admittedly, I never looked very hard for Gamecube stuff. It had a reputation for being kind of a lame console, which I'm sure sounds staggeringly crazy to zoomers who grew up with it, but I bought mine on launch, and I don't think I actually played anything on it within the entire years of 2003 and 2004. By '05, I tried giving it another chance and picked up Metroid Prime, only to be completely perplexed as to why anyone liked it. To this day, I never made it past the second level, and I think of it as the worst FPS I've ever played. I've been told not to compare it to other FPSes, and that it's really more story-driven and about exploration, but all I saw was a really awful game that didn't hold a candle to Half Life 2. To this day, I still don't know if it's actually a good game and I was just not into it at the time, or if it really actually is bad, and the fans are just Nintendo simps that'll bend over backwards to insist anything by Nintendo is good.

I should also mention I've never actually enjoyed a Metroid game, and I've given a fair shot to a few of them. I even gave Super Metroid a half hour and just didn't care. 2D Metroid to me always just felt like boring Mega Man.
