Many if not most gay men view women as sexual competition, which leads to a lot of resentment and hostility among insecure femmy guys who have limited market value to begin with. Not an authority on the homo hierarchy but afaik screaming queens aren't a hot ticket so this probably applies to Dylan.
Since the AGP/HSTS typology has been hopelessly broken by current societal delirium, my wordy assessment of the factors driving Dylan's transition echoes a lot of others' comments:
Exhibitionism: dude, watch the video of him in underwear gyrating his crotch by the faces of the two poor BIPOC men, it was always there.
Fear of aging is a huge factor, as a tran he gets a mask of makeup and accessories to hide behind and distract, plus the tranny hugshield.
Aforementioned competitiveness with women, add that to fear of aging and you get 'if you can't beat 'em join 'em' (and then beat them).
Opportunism. Dylan's career-driven trooning offered a chance at relaunch. As ugly and vapid as his style is, it's actually competent character design work, a decent portfolio piece both as an actor and a creative.
Really, he most resembles what they used to call a female impersonator, where it was a stage craft, but also lived full time because deviant faggotry.
