One thing I've noticed recently with Phil is that it doesn't matter how well he's doing overall for any particular day -- he can make $200 on the day stream and $20 on the night stream and still be toxic AF to his audience for not tipping that night. It's like for him, the money is not just about greed to sustain his addictions, but it also ties into his ego, in the sense that he feels "cheated" for playing a game without receiving contributions for his "work". Money is a way for him to feel like what he's doing has value. If you don't contribute a large enough amount, then you clearly don't respect him enough for the "hard work" he's putting into these boring AF retro playthroughs.
Aspiration doesn't imply an actual willingness to work towards your goals. All narcissists have fantasies of success and power, and a distorted image of what they are, which deep down they're acutely aware of how they're not these things.
