This is the sort of thing I've been thinking about. A lot of the missions/character arcs in the GTA series were tributes to 70's/80'90's movies or TV shows that you could play in.

Not too bothered if it's a female character who embodied those themes yet with current era that means it's likely going to be smuggling puberty blockers in or women out of the Handmaid's tale.

I wouldn't find fault if GTAVIce was indeed a Bonnie and Claude inspired crime romance story. Tony Scott/Tarantino's True Romance showed it can work as a story.

The claim they're going to avoid punching down is ridiculous. It's a satire of America, no one found fault with CJ and Grove Street or Franklin and Lamarr.

I want to know what exactly their definition of "punching down" is, tbqh.

I don't feel like GTA has done any sort of racially motivated shit against minority groups since like...GTA III maybe? And that's mostly just because of the really over exaggerated accents. Even Vice City didn't feel as bad, but of course they did have to censor that for Haitians I guess...

We all laughed at her, but it appears she won. No longer will GTA appeal to the male fantasy.

What's really odd about the Bonnie and Clyde thing is that they already did it with Claude and Catalina, between 1992 (SA) and 2001 (3) they were Bonnie and Clydeing their way across the entirety of the US before Catalina betrayed Claude. Yeah it was offscreen but still, how are they going to pull that off without modelling countless towns/cities? B&C didn't stick to one town.

That explains why they're expanding VI with other worlds. Interesting concept, I'll give them that. But, I'm not liking the live service approach with it. Expansion packs can do it and more.

So I heard this shit's woke now? There were signs it was coming but it's amazing to see it happen.

Okay, who (besides @Dom Cruise) is upset about GTA having a female protagonist?

If they're apparently going to try to avoid "punching down on marginalized groups", why are they making a Latina the main character of a game literally named after and based around a violent crime?
Don't get me wrong, I don't really care what gender or whatever the protag is, but it seems kinda goofy. I just hope GTA doesn't turn out like that new Saint's Row.

I don’t really care that GTA6 will have a Latina protagonist, but you already know with how the modern day is that they’ll make it super preachy and “look at how diverse our protagonist is!” I’ve also heard that GTA6 will avoid making jokes about minorities, so prepare for the downfall of GTA because now Take Two and Rockstar are cucked.

Video games are basically over, aren't they? At least in the west.

No, I do NOT want to play as yet another generic "Strong Female Protagonist" number 9001, for a series like GTA, I want to play as a cool GUY.

I check out completely when it's one of these modern generic "strong female characters" ala Horizon Zero Dawn or whatever, they're fucking boring, those type of characters are just plain fucking BORING.

You can make a female character interesting, I love Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose, Clock Tower, Fatal Frame and Silent Hill 3, all of which use the vulnerability of their female protagonists to great effect to enhance the horror, because when playing a HORROR game you want to feel disempowered and vulnerable.

GTA on the other hand is a POWER FANTASY and specifically one about the world of CRIMINALS and naturally that's going to resonate more when playing as a guy, Saints Row aside where it only worked there because everything was already so cartoonish, GTA has a different tone, at least starting with 4.

My point being shoving generic "strong female characters" into everything regardless of context is some GRADE A BULLSHIT and I'm fucking sick to death of it.

Maybe Rockstar can make it work, time will tell, but I sincerely doubt it, everything Woke touches it turns into watered down and BORING bullshit, enough is fucking enough.

You *really* need to not buy it. I'm being serious.

So many people will call it shit and still end up buying it. It's why games have gotten as bad as they are.

Not used. Not at a sale price. Do not buy it at all. I say the same thing in the Saints Row thread but if it ends up being ass bullshit as it seems, it's even more important to not buy GTA VI.

One of the things about GTA that stands out to me is that it already had racially diverse characters before Woko Haram came for it. And people are getting mad about a Latina protagonist as if Elizabeta and Catalina weren't characters already?

Oh, I remember when GTA IV poked fun of gun control with replacing Ammu-Nation with underground gun stores.

"Guns don't seem THAT controlled. I've seen plenty and I just got here."

There's an example of IV making fun of liberals. Well written, I may add.
I still get a kick out of TransFender
