Anyone who actually knows the anglo-con sphere are there actually western idols that are popular?
Not really unless it's changed recently. The biggest you get is, like, Beckii Cruel or that kind of level. The best of them went to Japan and released a song or two, most didn't even get that far. Gemma has got herself a fairly stable position doing regular soft-gravure, I think she's probably the only one who's making any sort of regular income and she had to move to Japan and serve the coomers to do it.
Why does her tweet sound like an early doge meme?
Lots of doge memes were based on the way Japanese people tend to speak English, since it's a Japanese breed.
If Magster isn't bringing in more money than it costs to manage him, those particular numbers are going to matter a whole lot.
Not necessarily. Hololive has never explicitly fired someone for not bringing in enough cash, and I can imagine that the reputation and staff-relations damage might cost them more than keeping someone "on the payroll" (they don't actually pay them any salary, right?).
I still dont understand what Amouranth's appeal is. She is boring as fuck and I would rather watch porn if I want to see someone shake their ass on camera.
This might only apply to the terminally cucked, but she has that relatable girl next door feel. Twitch feels like a regular hangount, it makes her feel attainable, whereas MFC or Chaturbate often feels like a soulless brothel experience.
Surely Spice Girls and Sugar Babes would technically count too?
I'd say they were very much positioned as musicians and not much else - the Spice Girls did have the one movie right at the end, but didn't really establish themselves as actors. You could make a case for Posh or Beyonce being idol-style talents but only after their groups fell apart, IMO.
From what I gather she's planning to stream the goddamn Disney Bishounen mobile game (Disney's Twisted Wonderland) which is such a super obscure pick that not even ES watchers will probably follow all the way through.
Hardly obscure, it's everywhere in Japan, or was a couple of months back. All the fujos loved it.
I could never understand why vtubers would have le sekrit Discords and shit until someone pointed out to me that it could be a really effective strategy to increase engagement in the community. People will presumably be more active in hopes of being invited and thereby getting closer to their oshi. More art, music and good clips etc would be produced for free as a result as well. While you do risk pissing people off, even that could be seen simply in terms of metrics if you're cold-hearted enough. I'm not sure if anyone does this deliberately, but I thought it was an interesting perspective that I hadn't thought about.
I think in a lot of cases it really is what it looks like, wanting to have some kind of closer relationship with a "safe" subset of their fans. The parasociality can go both ways, these people are spending a lot of time sitting alone in a room at a PC pretending to be friends with their audience, at some point it's easier to play games and chat with them than be constantly maintaining that wall. Every streamer whose discord I've been in, not just the vtubers and not just the commercially-minded ones, has crossed the line at some point with some of their fans.
You can be sure that almost all the popular vtubers here are pro trans, even Pippa, and people still like them.
I suspect a lot of people are quietly unenthusiastic but don't dare say anything. Even in the younger generation support is far from 100%, but you only hear from one side.
You have to wonder why cover can't just have a 3rd state for talent allowing them to appear once a blue moon for some notable event signing them to a short term contract that just covers one appearance and allowing them to keep milking their IP with "omgggg Sana and Coco return for holofes!!!1" merch sales.
They might have offered that and not been able to come to terms. Cover certainly isn't going to want to pay a lot to a talent who they will see as having let them down, after Cover already paid for the model etc. and hasn't really seen a return on that yet.
