Tomb Raider sucks in general. It tried to be Uncharted and failed.Don't forget Last of Us or the 2013 bullshit Tomb Raider reboot.
Tomb Raider didn't use to be this way. It didn't need to be shitty edgy Hunger Games/Last of Us/Uncharted/etc. knockoff bullshit. The original Tomb Raider games were actually supposed to be based off Tank Girl and Indiana Jones and were supposed to be fun. The newer games failed to capture the magic.Tomb Raider sucks in general. It tried to be Uncharted and failed.
Fun was definitely the missing ingredient. It's never a good sign when an otherwise relatively big-budget, mechanically-competent game makes me say "oh my GOD, this is so boring!"The original Tomb Raider games were actually supposed to be based off Tank Girl and Indiana Jones and were supposed to be fun. The newer games failed to capture the magic.
Most of these articles have been saying the first female protagonist in *modern* Rockstar history to cover their ass. I think this is general practice for everything because of how retarded everyone looked saying Black Panther was the first black Marvel movie. As for GTA Online I guess it just doesn't count cause they don't talk and is just a player avatar.I just realized something: GTA had female protagonists before. Twice.
GTA 1 and GTA Online.
Pretty much.
- Article releases saying that a game will have a female/gay/fat/black protagonist, will have terrible writing due to "cultural sensitivity" or some other buzzword and that the game will have live service bullshit.
- Spergs cry about a female/gay/fat/black playable character and in return the average twitter basement dweller promises to defend a capitalist company to own the chuds
- Everyone ignores that the game's writing is going to be shit and you will be nickel and dimed to death so that they can slapfight over stupid bullshit online
- Company gets away with it and makes millions of dollars while laughing to the bank about how their engineered outrage plan worked and the overton window of video game monetization shifts yet again
Did I get it about right?
I wouldn't be surprised if the "female protagonist" announcement is a distraction from its monetization.

Oh yeah, I was saying that point to "take the piss." GTA1's female protagonists were "female" in appearance and name only. They all functioned the same. But yeah, 95% of the playerbase doesn't even consider GTA 1, Londons, or GTA2 anymore. Hell, I'd argue like 75% didn't even consider the 3D era until the Definitive Edition came out. GTA V/Online completely changed the fanbase.
True, but I do think that the Mafia franchise is moving forward in time (20s-50s-60s) with a distinct focus on the mafia itself + urban areas, while a 1920-40s-RDR-GTA with a wider scope on both gameplay + scope (urban + rural) could scratch an itch in a different way. Then it would directly compete with the Mafia series based on that time period alone. The potential advantage that such a GTA would have over Mafia would be the world's interactivity and social commentary. I'm not bashing your general idea. I just realized that Take Two would directly compete with itself with that move.
Why do people compare Mafia and GTA as if they are interchangeable? Mafia's vision is not the same as GTA. Mafia is not a sandbox game.True, but I do think that the Mafia franchise is moving forward in time (20s-50s-60s) with a distinct focus on the mafia itself + urban areas, while a 1920-40s-RDR-GTA with a wider scope on both gameplay + scope (urban + rural) could scratch an itch in a different way.
That being said, Rockstar already has their hands full with GTA 6 + its expected online component, who knows if they'll ever be able to do a RDR sequel at all?
The idea that a sizeable percentage of zoomers have only played III/Vice City/San Andreas through the definitive edition unironically makes my blood run coldHell, I'd argue like 75% didn't even consider the 3D era until the Definitive Edition came out.
That's fucking genius. The reason people have a problem with a female protagonist in a GTA game is that it's simply not convincing. In the real world men commit the overwhelming majority of violent crimes, the idea of a woman carrying out armed bank robberies and carjackings just doesn't feel believable. If they made a game about poisoning your child and leaving them bedridden so you can be showered in sympathy by people on Facebook then yeah, a female main character would make sense.
One quick glance of both games would say otherwise. Crime story, open world, jack cars. Although, Mafia is more story driven than GTA.Why do people compare Mafia and GTA as if they are interchangeable? Mafia's vision is not the same as GTA. Mafia is not a sandbox game.
"If only everyone in the world would adopt my specific -ism, all the woes of the world would go away and the utopia would finally be ushered in."I just love how being "progressive" would supposedly stop R*'s "crunch culture." Give me a break.
