I’d like to see some evidence that this is uniquely racial, and not an obvious function of wealth. Are there numbers showing that upper-middle-class Pedro’s and Jamal’s are still predominantly having massive families with 5+ children? Or are they, like John and Chang, mostly limiting themselves to 1-3? In my personal anecdotal experience they certainly are not, but if the numbers say otherwise I’m willing to believe them.

The further up the income ladder you go, the fewer kids you tend to pump out. Mormons might be an exception with the Quiverful thing and all, but don't quote me on that. Also, poorer people do tend to have tighter-knit family/neighborhood connections out of sheer necessity, whereas your upper-middle-class Pedro and Jamal can pay for child care or, if they're really rolling in the dough, hire a nanny.
