Sam Hyde

$4500 a month is pennies to Sam. Are we all forgetting that Sam's dad (who he used to pretend wasn't in his life) is a Yale-educated literal doctor-lawyer with an MBA from Columbia who makes a living flipping failed hospitals. RISD is an elite school, who do you think payed for the $200,000 in tuition plus $100,000 for fees and living expenses. Let's not forget the year he went to Carnegie Mellon. Sam Hyde has never had a real job in his life.

Sam's dad only has 2 children, so he doesn't have to spread his resources thin. If you don't think Sam has extremely generous payments coming from his trust fund I don't know what to tell you.

He's crypto rich. He's stated multiple times that he maxed out a bunch of credit cards to buy bitcoin back in the day.
I believe Sam Hyde mentioned before he made a shit ton of money off of betting on the 2016 election and throwing all his money behind Trump before the Primaries when everyone thought he was a joke.
These were both bits. Even if true, it's still all pennies to him. He can afford to play around. And being crypo rich isn't all that great if you live in the States.

oh
my god

Don't understand why there's plenty of people who don't watch the gumroad content nor care to but they're still pissed that Sam is going to be producing his own clips for it instead. The free shit isn't even taken away, but there's a fake controversy regardless.

Honestly Sam was fair enough to offer to work with the clip channels and employ them and make their business legit and they appeared to have refused. Sam's backstory is pretty suspicious and all that but his actions in this situation are reasonable.

Also it doesn't matter if the Gumroad content sucks. It's his product and his right to sell it and keep a market for it which is a basic rule of market capitalism.

Something I've always found really ironic is how Sam turned his channel into a self improvement advice thing. Sam is the exact last person who should be giving advice. The man is in his mid 40s, in massive debt (he refuses to pay) that ruined his credit, is completely blacklisted from Hollywood and is obese with clear mental health issues. He blew hundreds of thousands of his money on expensive motorcycles and cars. He's really not fit to give advice on anything that isn't video production or comedy related.
Nobody should be taking self help advice from Sam but he's definitely not obese and afaik the narrative about him having debt is all from his maybe joking maybe not vid about debt collectors.

In terms of the 54k a year, we don't have enough information if it was contract, if the video output had to be higher, if TNP would have to work on other content for sam, but one thing for sure is that if you plan to have a career in editing (even just for youtubers) 54k to work for a burdonsome individual whos name will be a poison on any resume is NOT the steal of a deal you think it is, once the gravy train with Sam dries up TNP would have nothing to leverage since no one would want to touch anyone associated with Sam on Youtube and having a gap in your resume is always bad.

In terms of Sams content being shit now compared to the early days, Sams admitted that he takes a 'workman' approach to making content, all this really means is that he has no passion for making content and is solely doing it to make a buck in a timely manner, now thats fine I guess, AVGNs been doing that for over a decade now but it's really hard to force funny and it's very obvious that it's all gonna be downhill from here for Sam.

Sam has said multiple times in videos that his dad is very bad with money and some of the descriptions he has given of the shit his dad would do with his own money probably influenced how Sam views money.

That being said, his advice on debt is actually accurate and good if you don’t care about burning your creditors. Try it on medical debt in particular if you want to get a real eye opener on how broken our system is.

It has been noted here, but Sam was best when he had peers holding him back. If you watch the new crap on gumroad, it's just Sam walking around with a bunch of reddit tier white dudes with absolutely no charisma or stage presence. He completely dominates them in any conversation and almost comes off as an abusive prick. He's like some weird caricature of 4chan's idea of what an "alpha" is come to life.

His early stuff was lightning in a bottle, but that era is long gone. I don't even know how to describe his current content -- some of it has whispers of what made it great from the past but most is just boring content with admittedly pretty interesting editing. Why does anyone care about Sam and MMA or boxing?

The content feels just like Tom Green when he got older -- he and his audience just outgrew what made the original content funny. Adult Swim was his shot and he blew it. Not saying what happened was fair, but it is what it is.

I wouldn't take any advice from Hyde and I wouldn't buy anything from Rochefort

Sam is a grifter in many regards and I wouldn't want him to be around my children (not after what he did in uvalde), however I can appreciate this as a business move.
Imagine you have a patent on something and some chink slightly changes your product to evade patent laws and just sells it for cheaper. Wouldn't you go after them?
