I get the need to have these cribs in the hospital, so the family can spend time with the baby, with the hospital staff making sure that the crib is used.
But allowing them to take it home? It opens them up to parents in denial of the fact that their kid is dead, and I can easily see someone irrational with grief, or maybe just not smart enough to know to keep the child in that particular crib, so they go on holding it, co-sleeping with it, and pretty much treating it like a once-alive reborn doll while they refuse to acknowledge the fact it's decomposing. Horrifying indeed.
