It's funny how guys like this are always into pregnancy. Anything that's likely to keep a woman incapacitated and more dependent reads as "sexy" to them.

I think that adds to it, but it's been proven that a lot of abusers like to get their female partners pregnant as quickly and as often as possible, because, correctly or not, they feel it increases their control over her and keeps her dependent on them.

Actually for most pedophiles the control is to eventually get what they want which is the physical love of the child. It's been said that pedos don't see themselves as abusers but genuinely love children for whatever reason. The pedophile sees the child as a sexual object to be used but not so much in power kind of way but as a willing accomplice. In order to get them to that state certain things need to be done and not the least of them is to gain the child's trust through grooming, emotional support and eventually leading to them accepting the pedophile as a sexual partner. And even then sex isn't always the end goal. Sometimes what they want is simply a loving relationship with the child and if it leads to sex then they're not going to say no but I also don't feel they're being honest when they say that.

While I can't speak specifically for Pedobear's mental state, I did learn quite a bit about pedophiles when I found out that a former girlfriend of mine had been abused by her uncle when she was younger. We're still friends to this day and occasionally get together for coffee and conversation because she feels she can be be open with me in a way she can't with other people. She's still scarred from that to this day because he was an asshole. Thankfully he's dead from cancer and I've never actually wished death on anybody but him so I didn't feel bad when she told me. Back to the point, I tried to understand how it was a person can do this which led me to read up on the subject as well as speak with some psychologists and even go as far as to converse with one in prison. It's amazing what you can accomplish if you tell people you're a psych student and is looking to write a term paper on a subject.

He was never charged. The father of his victim was molesting her as well, so her parents pressured her not cooperate with the police. The victim's grandmother is the one that called police, but nothing came of it. James thinks it's because he said he'd never do it again, but the lack of a cooperating complainant probably sunk the whole case.

Correct. I think it happened, and the DA chose not to prosecute because the victim's family wouldn't cooperate. Even if James did confess to the police, any half-way competent defense attorney could get that suppressed by arguing that James clearly isn't all there, and didn't understand the gravity of confessing, so the DA might have not proceeded if all they had was his confession.
