Creative works you enjoyed until politics happened - "How politics made me hate Welcome to Nightvale and other things"

I gave Danny Boyle's Sex Pistols docudrama a fair shake until the character that portrays one of the founding members says she decided to sing because she needed a voice to "scream at the white hetero normative patriarchy."

Yea ok, a band started in fucking 1975 was founded because of neo Marxist gender nonsense that didn't even fucking exist until the late 90's at the earliest.

Nah that's about right, that brand of feminism was kind of around then in fringe circles.

But are you talking about Chrissie Hynde or Viv Westwood?

Part of me wants to dig up the quote, but part of me wants to keep that my image of Pierce innocent. Like you guys, the Alanna series was something I enjoyed so much growing up. I was already a tomboy, but reading her books was a nice way to see badass female heroines being knights and whatnot. I also like her Bloodhound books about a young woman becoming a city guard. They were gender nonconforming, and that was okay. They were still women.

I created a lot of characters and fictional settings growing up and much of that was inspired by books like Tamora Pierce's. To hear her step decades back in terms of gender stereotypes is saddening.

I recall liking several cross dressing manga and fiction growing up. Like Hana Kimi. But the cross dressing was a plot device, or a way to add tension if they were found out. Even something that they could use to get an "insider perspective" on how the other sex acred around each other. The characters weren't doing it because they actually wanted to be guys. But now anyone that even remotely dresses outside their strict gender role box is "trans".
I really don't understand how experienced writers still fall into this ridiculous trap. If the lesson/twist is "she was actually just a boy all along", the story is no better than one that ends with "and then the protagonist woke up and found out it was a dream all along". And even if you're specifically writing a wish-fulfillment fantasy for a bunch of genderspecials and coomers, you're just as likely to receive praise as you are to get your ass reamed for using the wrong word or not going far enough with your pandering.

Woke bullshit really does rot one's brain.

The S.C.U.M radical feminist stuff was but the intersectional variant of feminism that brought mixed in racial and gender crap is much more new and absolutely did not exist in the 70's.

Since when is Prog Rock political?

I'm afraid you'll need to be a little more specific.

Anyways, used to follow a lot of IG accounts that posted great photos of landscapes, with us interior and nasa in particular. Since Bidens election, however, about half of their posts are now virtue signaling bullshit about diversity and climate change.

SNL. When they satirized Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign, they made Hillary look flawless. They do the same thing with other left-wing politicians as well.
Late night talk show hosts have been shit for a long time. I remember one time watching this one host critique an ad for the oil and gas industry (because fossil fuels cause global warming everybody!). He played the ad for the audience, and at one point in the ad, a baby wearing a diaper was crawling on the floor. He paused the ad, and told the audience "What should I do? Call 1-800-POOPY-DIAPER?" I legit had never seen a more forced attempt at comedy than that.

A lot of people complain about how to 50s shoved the white picket fence virgin down everyone's throat and it was insufferable to many. Have we circled back to this with the current wokeness? I don't know enough about history to have a genuine opinion on this, but I do feel suffocated when it comes to just how many fucking rules and terms keep getting rolled out by the day from the woke crowd. It is exhausting and so much of it is just an obvious powertrip.

There's a netflix original series called "history of swear words" me and a friend started watching 1 episode daily a few days ago, even though we could theoretically binge watch the whole thing in one sitting with how short it is. It quickly went from amusement watching to hate-watching just to see what kinda dumb current year politics shit they're gonna pull out their ass next.
Episode 1 we were like "haha that was a kinda funny short thing about the word fuck with 1 or 2 of the people commenting on it being kinda pretentious assclowns about it" and then 2 episodes later after we gotmore than just the 2 of us in on watching the thing the collective reaction was more or less a room of people going "HOLY SHIT THEY ARE LITERALLY TRYING TO FRAME BITCH AS THE FEMALE N WORD OOOOOHOHOHOHOHO!!! AAAAAA!!! FUCK YOU BITCHES!! AAAAHAHAHA!!". I'm not shitting you they unironically 100% serious frame the word bitch as a"Slur" you can't say unless you're a woman or LGBTQ+ which means that it's "empowering and you're taking it back" which is literally the logic behind the fucking N word with black or brown people replaced with women and corporate rainbow politics shit.
The series lists like nearly everyone involved as the "executive producer" but it's ridiculously clear there was only one or 2 people writing all this shit.

In Star Trek you had the Bush Wars, the Eugenics Wars, World War 3, the post-atomic horror, the Earth-Romulan War.

What did Star Trek: Strange New Worlds use as one of the darkest moments of Human History?

The Jan 6 Insurrection.
Pike warned faction leaders that their current fighting would lead them down the same path as Earth: a second civil war that became a eugenics war, and then World War III, which resulted in a massive loss of life.

Pike illustrated his points with footage from those past wars, including a direct reference to the real-life Capitol riots on January 6, 2021

This was to an Alien Species.

Today I made the mistake of checking out what the Yogscast have been up to after looking at their very first Minecraft videos. Of course they have genderqueer representation in their team and Lewis looks like a soyboy now but to see what became of them hurts. I'm amazed they haven't deleted some of their LPs for having things like rape jokes in them.

I haven't been following those guys since forever ago when they did that kickstarterscam game thing, maybe partly before that I can't remember. But I do rremember it was like a game grumps-ish scenario where a thing that was originally just some guys playing games and having fun started feeling more fake and corporate around some point till I fucking just dropped it after a specific point. I can't remember what point it was SPECIFICIALLY with the yogscast like I can witht he grump guys but how they are now seems on-brand with how a lot of popular youtube chill funny gaming guys ended up.

There were a few damn good series that I'm revisiting right now (currently Jaffa Factory - Whale Lords has some funny moments too). What happened was Simon began having problems with his health so he couldn't be on as much anymore. There was also the fact Yogscast is literally a company so the change from two guys having fun to boring gaming channel number 13485 was inevitable.

I'm still subbed to them despite not having watched a video for a LOT of years. Every time I try to clean up and think about unsubscribing, I make the mistake of scrolling through the old videos and remembering how funny they were. The only thing of theirs I'll still listen to is their original podcast series, that shit was great. But they really stopped being relevant hard and it all started feeling very soulless. You could tell their heart wasn't in their main series anymore.

Retsupurae kind of holds the same spot in that I am still subbed only because I remember how funny I used to find them. But I will admit, if they posted a video again, I'd watch it. I do kinda miss them, even if they pussied out by deleting some old bullying clips and their pewdiepie hate video aged like spoilt milk.

There's this small Pokémon comic called Tinder Skitty that got some fanfare on Twitter (which is already a bad sign) a while back. Essentially each small comic has some Pokémon talking and what not, and the 2 main characters are this Skitty and Wailord (referencing the Skitty on Wailord action meme) that had met on Tinder.

Basically, it looks like this:

Honestly, most of the comics are tame (although the art is too furry imo).

Now I hadn't actually been looking at the comic that much recently (because I don't use Twitter) but the author had introduced some cheesy idol group that was easy to ignore, because most characters in the comics are mostly just there for the comic they appear in:

I thought "whatever" and just skipped it. Unfortunately, the author decided to recently shoehorn in a "trans rights" comic for virtually no reason:

The comic (link) wasn't even posted during June (aka Pride Month), it was posted today (August 2nd), which makes it worse.

Needless to say, I'll be dropping the comic, good riddance.

Don't shove your personal political views into entertainment that you create. I actually liked the comic until this happened (I didn't look at the artist's Twitter page so if he was already woke I had no idea before this). Imagine drawing like that (the art style isn't bad even if it is furry) and yet being unable to not let your personal views into your art.

I feel sorry for Sylveon as a pokemon, it just happened to have complementary colors that suited the whole 'fairy type' theme, and of course trannies jumped on it as being a 'trans-themed' pokemon. I hate that even color patterns now can't be seen as just colors that work well together, but are instead symbols for the various flavors of sexuality.

I ended my on and off cycle of WoW after finding out whoever was in charge of the lore decided to retroactively treat the entire Alliance as secular humanists where no one really believed in anything supernatural aside from a bare few nobodies, and it reeked of ax-grinding. Something seems to have happened at Blizzard just after WOTLK.

I ditched Borderlands after 2 because of how annoying and hamfisted the side quests/creators could now and then get, but in retrospect me hating Tiny Tina probably helped since she's now the series mascot.
