Bob, what the fuck are you talking about? The first AvP is a trash film. It's cheap, lame and toothless. There are 2 scenes where a Predator fights an Alien and neither of those are particularly impressive. Despite being based off of two franchises famous for gore and violence they made it a PG13. The Aliens aren't scary, or intelligent, the Predators aren't intimidating and two of the three get jobbed by the first Alien they meet. You can't even call it dumb fun because it lacks everything that makes both Alien, and Predator fun.

Even Bob's taste can't be so awful that he genuinely likes it.

Y'know, I've never understood the whole representation argument that terminally online sorts like this make when it comes to media. I've discussed it with a gay friend of mine, and we both agree that it's silly not to be able to relate to someone who doesn't look and act like you and share all your characteristics. That's basic empathy, being able to put yourself into someone else's shoes and understand their situation. Race, sex, sexuality, class, whatever - if it's a well-written character in a good story, I'll be able to relate to them. Diversity for diversity's sake is just pandering.

Funny how Pete tries to flip this around by saying that it's not his side that is constantly complaining about what they're seeing in media. I seem to recall so much bitching about how X franchise needs a Y character over the years, and then when it happens, they go on to say that it now needs Z representation, or Y character isn't being done well enough, or now we need to go back and make A, B, and C characters into Ws, and on and on. You could probably go into A&N right now and find a few recently posted articles in this exact format.

And finally, the opposite of woke isn't ignorant, it's "not being a sanctimonious, holier-than-thou asshole."

Uh...it sounds to me like it is all planned out ahead of time (or at least broad strokes anyway), considering that the only thing that Sam Raimi apparently changed was the timing of Scarlet Witch going evil. If she was going to do it anyway, but the reveal got moved up by maybe an hour, then has anything really changed?

Bob fails to understand why a joke repeated well over a dozen times at this point just isn't funny anymore, if it was ever all that funny to begin with. Considering he's probably somewhere on the autism spectrum, not understanding humor seems par for the course.

The "character lampshades that a comic book character's name sounds goofy" joke is frankly just lazy humor, and pretty symbolic of how the MCU treats its stories as a whole. I mean, I'm not expecting cinematic greatness or anything, but one of the big issues I ended up having with it as the movies went on was that they were written in such a way as to remove any dramatic tension through constant quippiness. I enjoy a fun adventure as much as the next guy, but when tension is immediately dissipated by a lame joke, it takes me out of the movie and makes me stop caring. If the characters aren't going to take it seriously, then why should I?

Hell, this particular "joke" has become so repetitive that Screen Junkies made an entire montage in one of their recent Honest Trailers (about the 4 minute mark):

The other is in his classic vein of "I'm actually an unacknowledged genius and all of my movie ideas would be guaranteed to have a nine-digit opening weekend because I'm just that brilliant." Again, I'm not dumb enough to actually parse why he thinks a semi-serious Fast and Furious-style take on Crazy Taxi of all things would be a mega blockbuster. All I'll say is that Bob is a fucking retard.

Actually as I said before, I have interacted with Bob before he became famous. And I remember correcting his AVP review because he just went with the "general knowledge" (alien skull appears in pred 2!) instead of the deeper lore which I had picked up (the comic was almost finished and the alien skull was put in the movie as a nod to it).

It was my first big clue that he never bothered diving any deeper into stuff beyond wikipedia.

Heck Bob is the ideal 1984 subject because he just farms his knowledge out to wikipedia. The ministry of truth could change the wiki article overnight and Bob would regurgitate the new info without a moment's thought that it was different from what he said yesterday.

Someone should let him know that Multiverse of Madness underperformed. If DC wants to ape a Marvel movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home would be the recent one that comes to mind. As to the primary sources thing, I am pretty amazed he hasn't at least checked out some collected volumes of Marvel works. To be slightly fair to Bob, I can see how his ignorance would form on this since the MCU is trying to set itself up as a generational thing which is one of it's countless disconnects from the actual Marvel universe. The problems start when he starts generalizing this to everything and starts saying nonsense like how he thinks the X-Men in the comics are about youth culture vs the adults and main team has a history of being teenagers....even though the main team has never been centered around teens outside the early 60s. He's still a gigantic idiot but I can see the train of thought if you literally only look at MCU content.

I know from when I used to watch Bob's stuff that he hates Venom. I never really understood why but I think it's because Venom is popular with the sorts of people that bullied him, or reminded him of his bullies. And as we know that massive baby cannot get over something that happened 30+ years ago he has to carry that resentment everywhere he goes. So he doesn't let himself enjoy things, and he forces himself to like things that go against those things he doesn't like. Sam Raimi hated including Venom? If Venom bad, that mean Spiderman 3 good! YAY!

Venom is cool, and Spider-man 3 would still have been awful if he wasn't in the movie.
