I wasn't joking when I said the CCP is worried about their liquor being drunk up. That's why they were sounding off the emergency sirens.

Too easy. They should do it in South Korea and blame the North.
 
Also worth noting that the admin's guy coming out to reaffirm that it does not support Taiwanese independence is likely a signal to China that this show is purely performative. And their saber rattling is to save some face. Short of an inciting incident, again like Pelosi suddenly saying something stupid, this all will end with nobody... actually gaining or doing anything.

Frankly, I don't see much point to the show at all. Unless Pelosi believes she is going to deliver an absolute homerun of a speech this just hurts everyone long-term for no actual gain.

I think it does make small moves to everyone's benefit. It definitely doesn't hurt the Establishment dems, before the midterms, to make a show of force to China. It positions us to continue to control global semiconductor supply. It reminds everybody (including me) that China isn't really strong enough to take us on, and is aware of that fact.

I don't know how the republicans play it, but I'd assume the best move is either say "hey good show Nancy" or just ignore it
