YABookgate

Who wants to hear some MORE spurious Science Fiction/Pedophile gossip.

An old and not very respected science fiction fan organisation - the Australian Science Fiction Foundation, also known as ASFF - had a reputation of being filled with old fannish folks that really didn’t do much except host a lot of General Meetings where nothing got done.

The oldest of them - Bill - died recently, and EVERYONE in the community knew for ages that he took trips to kiddie diddle in Thailand, but it was handled in a “let’s keep X away from kids”. He was already nearly 80 when he admitted it. What the fuck do you do, claim it senile ramblings?

So anyway the ASFF gets a new president, some random self-published person who nobody really knows. But keen, which is fine. She may have known Bill briefly as a nearly 100 year old dude.

She decides to start a new ASFF writing award for kids: “Bill’s Youth Writing Award”

People are up in arms and tell her that Bill had a shocking history, and a Youth Writing Award is right up there with the Jimmy Saville Youth Performing award.

Well, do they quickly change the award name?

Or do they block everyone and call them bigots and threaten legal action for “hate speech”?

Gentlefolk, I’ll leave this mystery up to you…
LOL, this is what happened when you're not being transparent to everyone in your own organization. Happens everytime, it's kind of a typical problem in any organization. Still funny though

My new personal rule is if they wrote science fiction/fantasy before the year 2000 they're a pedo until proven otherwise. Even then it's a near thing post 2000.
Fortunately these people aren’t writers, it’s sort of an upmarket fan organisation that tends to be adjacent to a lot of convention organising, and one of these is writing awards. Unfortunately this has killed some of the awards.

But you’re correct in noting that speculative fiction communities in general are a bit too “popular” with these people. Like - the favourite show among pedophiles was Star Trek for a weirdly long time.

There’s also evidence suggesting that smart but socially awkward people are more likely to have sexual paraphilias that are taboo in society. Someone mentioned recently that when they were president of another local speculative fiction fan club, the police had actually contacted him directly to tell him that one of their members was dangerous around children, but they couldn’t tell him who it was.

Grooming and access to children has become super-hot button topics lately, and what was surprising for everyone was the vitriol and SJW language used to defend the alleged pedophile’s memory and justification for it being attached to a children’s competition . It really rattled even some of the lefties.

I just found out that Eric Flint died on 17th of July. He's one of the few authors who made me want to become an author. I know this thread is big in supporting authors who agree with you politically but it should also be about buying good stories, no matter who wrote them. He will be dearly missed.
Oh damn, RIP.

Even though I hate the politics in the books, (It's come to the point I'm straight up skimming and skipping the chapters in some books) I really liked the rest of them. It was worth suffering through the modern day ideological cringe to get the clash of two timelines. Does anybody know what's gonna happen with the series?

It's the intellectual background of SFF that made it popular among pedos, related to the height of the pro-pedo movement back in the 70s. Basically since science fiction is rooted in the modernist ideal of "progress" it was natural that as postmodernism became dominant that "progress" included abolition of age of consent laws. Fantasy gets dragged along because it's essentially the mirror image of science fiction and shares the same culture.

It's related to the socialist influence on SFF and the socialist/communist support of pedophilia (i.e. Michel Foucault, a pedo and pedo activist, support for Roman Polanski), etc. Thus, pedos liking Star Trek and being everywhere in the SFF fan community isn't surprising.

Good. These people need to wake and see the rot in their midst. Yesterday's lefties aren't always today's SJWs and commies but they're being subsumed by them.

Doors of Stone has its prologue finished every one celebrate!!

Edit: Once again this thread has disappeared from the threadlist probably because for some god forsaken the first post is gone @Null can you fix this?
Funny you should mention Rothfuss, I just posted about him in the Reddit General thread. Link

He may have gotten up to some fun and games with his WorldBuilders charity, having it pay rent to him. /r/books nuked the post and shadowbanned the thread.

So a "we coppers know enough to know who it is, but can't prove it, and the law prevents us making 'unfounded' accusations, so best we can do is tell you to watch out" situation?

Not necessarily. The charity does sell moichandise, and presumably that has to be stored somewhere. Plus, it seems to have employees beyond Rothfuss and the other directors, so they need to be someplace or other to hang their hats.

Kind of a bad look, in the sense that the money is supposed to be for retarded starving Africans or something AND everything ultimately goes to one charity (I think), but maybe not even that unreasonable. Just not exactly how he's presented himself and the charity through the years.

Exactly. It was a little club that met weekly and less than 20 people turned up each night at the meeting hall, but it was like the fucking scene from THE THING - one of their members was a dirty pedo, and not a rumoured one, an actual molester.

Thats an excellent catch for the OP, but also what a cunt of a man. Now we know where his extra money ($72k per year) is coming from on top of the $15 Million he's earned on on royalties alone

Don't know if this is cope, but the guy is a wealthy celebrity and people keep giving money to him.

But his prose is allegedly good.

As @Two Gorillion Dollars posted upthread a while back:

“I have known her longer, my smile said. True, you have been inside the circle of her arms, tasted her mouth, felt the warmth of her, and that is something I have never had. But there is a part of her that is only for me. You cannot touch it, no matter how hard you might try. And after she has left you I will still be here, making her laugh. My light shining in her. I will still be here long after she has forgotten your name.”

You couldn't write a better parody of whiny fedora-tipping incels if you tried, and yet Rothfuss apparently meant for this to be taken seriously.
