>Hollywood is abuzz with speculation approaching Warner Bros. Discovery’s first quarterly earnings since becoming the nation’s No. 2 entertainment giant on Thursday. Multiple insiders told TheWrap they expect Chief Executive Officer David Zaslav to announce a major restructuring of marquee streaming platforms HBO Max and Discovery+ during its results or soon after.

>The move will result in a gutting of HBO Max, significant layoffs for its executives and staff to minimize redundancies with HBO and a combined streaming service with Discovery+ with a harder line separation between the scripted and unscripted content operations.

>“Everyone in Warner Bros. Discovery is nervous at the moment, and [they’re] starting to look at alternative job options in case they get the axe,” a company insider said. “Sounds like they’re not doing HBO Max scripted shows anymore with HBO taking over, so less scripted shows overall.”

>HBO Max development is expected to be especially hard hit with layoffs with two sources placing the amount of dev staff cuts at 70%. “HBO Max has a development team, which is a lot of overhead,” the agent with knowledge explained. “And why do you need a development team at HBO and HBO Max? It’s redundant. Just have Casey Bloys’ team do all the scripted TV development.”

Basically, HBO Max is dead and Discovery is canceling animated projects fast.

This is absolutely horrific.

It should say fewer scripted shows overall.

Lightyear dropped on Disney Plus today, so I figured I'd give it a watch because I had nothing better to do. I'm really glad I didn't pay for a ticket to see this in an actual cinema. It's so boring.
Pirating it this weekend just to see how bad it really is.
My bf and I watched it together. He thought it was good in the beginning then it got awful in the second half. I thought it got awful when his partner started talking. She was an obnoxious bitch who wasted time that could've gone to Buzz. The only character we agreed was the best was the robot cat.

Chris Evans did a good job surprisingly. Reminded me of David Tennent's Scrooge McDuck. Keke Palmer's character was okay if not also obnoxious (she had that stereotypical black sass) but Taika Watitty needs to be shot into the sun (both him and his character).

While Netflix was the canary in the coalmine regarding streaming animation is this the true start of the streaming bubble popping as a whole? HBO Max had to still be doing decent given its extensive library compared to others including Disney+. Then again the economy is going tits up so who knows what will be left when the tits come back down.

Adventure Time: Had several figure lines, a few comics, some books, a couple of video games, apparel, and IIRC two gaming apps based off the series‘ Card Wars game. It petered out a little bit after the show ended.
As a fan, I can tell you there was quite a bit more than that. AT, I believe, was in the top 3 of CN’s most profitable shows (not including outside works like WB cartoons, DC Comics, etc.).

AT's biggest hurdle was just the split in demographic between adult and kid. AT has an impressive merch list when looked through, but a lot of it was geared more so to the older fans. I would say AT had a better merchandise run then Steven Universe and really most CN shows past and present.

To add to your list:
  • Plushies. Somehow you forgot these.
  • The first two videogames for AT (Hey Ice Kind Why'd You Steal Our Garbage and Explore The Dungeon Because I Don't Know) were both gifted special editions , which is super rare for licensed games not connected to capes. The only other I can think of is SpongeBob BFBB Rehydrated. To my knowledge no other CN show has ever been given something like this, let alone 2.
  • Adventure Time got LEGO sets, an honor only 3 CN shows currently hold. The first was Ben 10, and the other was The Powerpuff Girls reboot. Even saying this, Ben 10 wasn't even traditional LEGOs, more like Bionicle styed ones. While PPG is the only one to have full traditional sets, AT got LEGO Dimensions packs and an Ideas set.
  • AT was big in gaming. It was CN's introductory franchise into Brawlhalla, an initial franchise in Multiversus, and I believe CN's introductory franchise into Minecraft and Little Big Planet. The only other series that get paired with AT for gaming crossovers are Steven and Ben 10, barring Dimensions which opted for PPG.
  • AT got a high quality statues in 2020 by Mondo, again, just another more adult oriented thing. One was of Finn and Jake, another was for Marceline.
  • AT is also one of the few to get the full show on DVD. That was a big issue for CN for years, but I don't know if it still is.

You know the weirdest thing from the ear of Lore cartoons was when Disney Junior wanted to join in a little. I mean for Lion Guard and Elena of Avalor were insanely continuity and Lore driven for pre-school shows to the point they killed off villains. Am I the only one who thought that was weird even their Sofai the First apparently got Lore driven in the final season.

I guess I just find it weird that Disney decided to have some of their pre-school shows Lore driven at the same time they were doing it to their cartoons that were ment for slightly older audience.

(Thought I'd try and start a new game of animation music screen cap)

And yet they still won’t upload Buzz Lightyear of Star Command onto D+. The movie already flopped, there’s frankly nothing to lose at this point.

I couldn’t have seen this coming. Hopefully the animation massacre won’t be too bad, Jesus…

Yeah honestly, why not both pilot movie and TV series given nu-Lightyear's financial failure. Besides that, Star Command was an awesome show.

I downloaded that Lucky movie to watch it after work to see how much of a shitty "made for streaming" movie it is. Can't wait.
Hopefully it won’t do too badly considering that it’s supposed to be part of Lasseter’s comeback and to push Skydance as a potential new animation studio.
It's okay.

Better than Turning Red and Lightyear that's for sure.
To be fair, it’s not a very high bar but still a silver lining.
