Patrick Sean Tomlinson / @stealthygeek / "Torque Wheeler" / @RealAutomanic / Kempesh / Padawan v2.5 - "Conservative" sci-fi author with TDS, armed "drunk with anger management issues" and terminated parental rights, actual tough guy, obese, paid Quasi, paid thousands to be repeatedly unbanned from Twitter

Scalzi is an absolute hack. Certainly someone Fatrick would model his career after.
Scalzi seems to divide opinion here. Personally I can’t look beyond his Patrick-esque personality (he has the same tryhard abrasiveness but is much better at knowing when to turn it on and off and generally negotiate the politics side of the business far better) but other people here have said he’s an entertaining author in spite of it. I haven’t read any of his stuff but I can’t see how he got to the position he’s in without having some degree of writing talent - I suspect he ships more units than most Tor authors combined.

I love sci fi, I finally read the CS Lewis space trilogy and I can’t believe how fucking good it was. He wrote it in the 30s or something crazy right? Incredible.

Now I’m reading Gene Wolfe, the new sun stuff. Haven’t read much but can tell it’s going to be great.

The SFWA sci fi stuff is complete fucking shit. I haven’t bothered with Scalzi but my intuition he’s more SFWA low grade crap. The type of science fiction books you see at wallmart or at an airports newsagents.

/edit, I was unclear, I meant modern SFWA sci fi, as I think Gene Wolfe is a SFWA grand master (whatever that means)

I need you to understand that Ready Player One sold massive numbers and there is a legion of redditors reading it everyday. Sales are not an indicator of talent in 202X.

Oh come on now this is too unrealistic. He took part in an L Ron Hubbard award what was first price free entry on the sex offender registry? One of those Ethan Ralph brand kid diddler hats? This shit is just crazy and the truth of his life is even strange and dumber than fiction. Just too perfect.
Seriously! I was not aware that Pat the staunch atheist has no problem honoring the memory of a pedophile cult leader if it gets him attention. How is this not thrown in his face multiple times daily?

This is HERD IMMUNITY based on a short story he's been #writing since 2015 at least, 2019 in longer form. Submitted it to the Scientology award in honor of L. Ron Hubbard and was a finalist for that quarter.

Hey @Netflix come and get it! The protagonist is disabled!!!

Tor Books published a Scalzi sci-fi book about ecology and animal/alien rights this year, Pat probably eager to ride that wave, grift the "If you liked X you'll like Y" lists:

Patrick!!! You need to sue Scalzi! He stole your idea, very obviously, you have tweets showing that it was your idea first!!! I think your publisher would totally loan you $100k to sue his pants off! Go get him, tiger!

One good thing about Pat is that he makes me feel more comfortable about my own writing, even if English is my second language. Makes me want to actually go for it more, because if an absolute hack like Fatirck can do it, so should I.
These were my thoughts when I saw the tweets about him taking 2 months to write 13k words and he was proud of that?

And here I was feeling bad that I could only get out 1500 an hour. It's no wonder he can't make any money when he can't even shit out a finished draft in a month.

He participated in 2013, 2014 and 2015 from what I could find. By 2018 he was denouncing it:

That bottom tweet from 2018 is the very earliest mention of the word "Scientology" on Pat's Twitter that exists today.

Now, I don't know about you fellas, but I have a really hard time believing a very online militant atheist active in skeptic and anti-religion web forums, who is into science fiction, who lived in Clearwater Florida of all places, was not very aware of what the church was about by the year 2013.

It just doesn't add up. He obviously knew and just didn't care, wanted the cash prizes they give out. He has no principles. He abandoned his own daughter.

I mean, his work days are torn between shouting at stalkers on Twitter, and drinking hard. It's hard to type when your blood alcohol content matches your GPA and your fingers are way too fat and pepperoni-greased for your shitty laptop keyboard.

I grew up in a foreign country, am not a stalwart of the atheist web, am not into science fiction and even I knew how irredeemable Scientology was by the late 1990s. Pat is a shameless liar.

Yeah, but you gotta understand that Pat is factually retarded. I dont believe him on much, but I do believe when he says he doesnt know shit.

The people I know who like Scalzi are casual readers who just want something fun. He has his niche.

It’s my understanding that sci-fi people used to be more comfortable separating Hubbard’s novels from his religious shenanigans because they still liked the books. They also liked how the award helped beginning sci-fi writers. But 2018 seems really recent to be seeing the light on Pat’s part. Scientology has been a known shitshow for years now.

He 100% knew and closed his eyes. The whole "I didn't know how bad Scientology is, hur dur" schtick stopped being an excuse in the early 90s with the Time article, waves of lawsuits, and Lisa McPherson's death.

No surprise to anyone in this thread, but SFWA and their ilk go out of their way to downplay the connection to Scientology. If you bring it up, you get excuses ranging from "It's completely separate from the religious side" to "Not everything is black and white." Asking pointed questions about it and watching them squirm is hilarious.

Writers of the Future is a career maker in the scifi writing world. It's the only contest in the industry with a big cash prize and awards gala. They all get to pretend to be celebrities for an evening, fully paid for by a predatory, fraudulent organization.

Fatrick had dollar signs in his little piggy eyes, guaranteed. The real reason he stopped entering was because his first novel was published in 2015, making him ineligible for future entries. The contest is only open to unpublished novelists.

So first he steals from Will Tate, then John Scalzi. He likes the shittiest movies in the world, lived in Clearwater, but has never heard about how heinous Scientology is, not even in the context of Tom Cruise or John Travolta being gay weirdos who were blackmailed by them.

#amlying #amlazy #20wordsaday #20beersaday

He does have LRH's physique, maybe it was a Hubbard look-alike contest instead of a literary competition.

Obviously Fatrick needs to do some public cross-dressing to give his writing career that kick it needs.

TBF there is a video out there of somebody trying to troll Scalzi at a signing and Scalzi just rolled his eyes and laughed it off. Even signed whatever it was the guy was trying to get him to sign. No massive sperg out or 6000 long tweet thread about harassment that I recall.

edit:

The first couple of Old Man's War books are pretty good Military SF, if not exactly masterpieces. The series fell off a cliff with the (I think) fourth book which has as a main character one of the most painful Mary Sue's in literary history, likely modeled after his daughter.

Scalzi's attempt at Foundation is a horrible embarrassment, though. And that's without even getting into his irritating insistence on gender neutral pronouns, "Emperox," etc.

Yet Tor paid him $3.5 million for six or seven books. Fatrick should not lose hope.

There isn't a single recent entry to science fiction who I wouldn't gladly sacrifice to Moloch for any single deceased pre-Golden Age, Campbell Era, or New Wave SF writer. Most of them I'd gladly hurl into the sun a dozen at a time for a 10% chance of getting one of the others back.

Even his social media assholery is at the general average level of literally any blue check, and any personal account I've heard of him says he's seemingly a pretty easy to get along with guy. Oh and he doesn't feed the trolls, #1 and only rule of "how not to be a lolcow." You can have literally every other lolcow trait and not be a lolcow if you follow that one rule.
