Guilty Gear Strive

Caught this tidbit in a video. But worth noting that they also treat it as a "point scoring" thing where the popular characters are worth the most points.
Yeah I know the video you are talking about and I wanted to talk abit more about the points thing too:
They want marketable characters that are UWU and so cute but they devalue any character with any edge associated with them
look at how desperately they want to claim both Bridget or Astolfo compared to a character like say Ash Crimson from KoF.
Part of it might be popularity but the other is that Ash is a straight up dick that can be seen as a real son of a bitch from long time fans of the series
and this is inspite of him being one of the 4 main saga's protagonists. They not only want already popular characters to take over, but "safe UWU flawless ones", its fucking despicable

I've always found this is potentially the biggest issue I have. And take into mind, this isn't from a place of genuine hatred or anything (I tend to clock out when the thread becomes "lmao trannies" rather than "look what retarded shit this person/people did", I'm probably a soyboy to half of the site lol).

Exceptionalism is just another wall you're putting up.

That is to say, if you're going to constantly act like you need to be treated special, then you will never be able to properly integrate with others and you're always going to be the "out group". And at the end of the day, there are some people who will naturally resent that "out group".

It's a bit sharp but that'll probably be the most genuine and good-willed advice any of the trans or trans allies will get for at least a few pages.

I am arguing with people on twitter, since I don't trust those who claim the translation actually states he's trans.

The issue is they tend to just lie or twist the meanings of certain phrases to push a specific narrative, so I can't trust those actually claiming he's trans due to how biased they tend to be.

This sucks man.

Edit: Oh, so it was taking shit at face value and removing it's context/tone. Great.

Whelp, shit's fucked. Bridget has been my favorite GG character for twenty years, and his rendition in Strive looks great, but it's looking more and more that I won't be able to talk openly about him outside of "bad" places like here and 4chan. Just looking at the Guilty Gear subreddit, for example, they appear to be quickly forming consensus that Bridget is a girl now, twenty years be damned without him even undergoing any Mai-esque anime genderbender transformation. I should be happy about Bridget's return, but this is just making me feel like shit.

Well, at least I can still probably count on "boy" tags in the new wave of porn we'll now be getting.

It's not like Daisuke will burst through my wall for calling Bridget a "he" and strangle me to death.... right?
Either way this change of "development" makes no sense, no build up or explanation. I honestly found the most insulting line to be from a livestream where a guy called Bridget a "he" and some rando gave him the arcade clip, my man said "what the" and the clipper just said "Don't question it. Just correct yourself." That has to be the most insulting line I've ever read.
This kind of behavior honestly scares me. When a character is retconned as trans (or is accepted by a large chunk of a fanbase, see how Naoto is handled by shitty Persona fans or how Chihiro being a boy is sacrilege to a lot of Danganronpa fans), they'll just immediately switch pronouns like all those years didn't happen and get uppity when people question why it's now a thing. Or what even happened/how "he" became a "she". Not even saying "trannies go dilate", just asking what the fuck happened.

It happens in real life and it's worse, but to see people bring that sort of discourse into fictional characters, things that generally don't have feelings if they aren't written or drawn by people and can't have a breakdown over what they say, makes me feel like the people calling this sort of shit a cult aren't being dramatic in the slightest.

I know a lot of people that found out about Guilty Gear off of Bridget. My first exposure to the series was him. I loved his design, but didn't get to playing GG until Xrd came out, played the older titles after that. I was one of those kind of obnoxious people prying for him to come back. I was excited to see him back when I heard the announcement and saw his artwork (yeah his new design is fantastic), and then I heard the hubbub and it felt like a monkey paw.

Nice to know that the whole "IT'S A TRAP" gimmick that's been going on for 2 decades by this point can get your ass banned in at least NA now, that gives crazies who likely just save a ton of Testament art "for later" and rarely ever play the games a lot more of a power trip.

Bridget talks about being a girl at the end of the arcade mode, they obviously weren’t going to spoil that in the pre release bio, even the official English pre release info on the site still acknowledged Bridget was born a son, so it’s pretty clear the bios aren’t meant to spoil any potential major character identity decisions at the end of a story related scene

This shit happens every time something progressive or woke makes it’s way into something from Japan, people flock and parrot the first dude who plugs stuff into a machine to translate. This exact same thing happened back with testament and wasn’t right.

Not gonna say localizers don’t butcher shit sometimes because they do, but this is seeming pretty in character for how strive has been handling characters. Stop getting baited by the dudes that run to a machines translation to prove a point.

I’m not being baited, it just came across my timeline and I knew people were talking about it here.

Well, going to a dictionary for the Japanese language also supports the fact that there's no actual use of an explicitly female pronouns. It's a lot more ambiguous that way, which goes along with his character I suppose. I still think it's some twist on a localizers part, intentional or not.

The bio is not taking into account new story details that happen in strives arcade mode.

It came across your timeline because people are being baited by it. People really don’t wanna admit Diasuke is woke and will retweet this kinda stuff even if it’s missing important details.

I just hope to god that they don't ever get to Tekken and start pulling this shit over there, Harada seems to have a good head on his shoulders when it comes to this thing and most of the new character designs and aditions have been great (aside from leroy being broken but that just gameplay and can be mostly fixed with patches) so I'm relatively hopeful for tekken 8. I can't even begin to see how much of a shitshow SF 6 will be if they ever decide to add in poison although that seems to be a done deal and guys kept it in the downlow that he/she whatever might have been a shemale but it never got into the plot and it never felt forced or intrusive.
Never been much of an Arc Sys guy but I used to play Persona 4 Ultimax and Blaz Blue back in the PS3/360 days, can't help but feel sad for you guys and unlike the dudes from Red Letter Media I have the opinion that it does not, in fact, feel great to see your favorite franchises go down in flames.

Best regards if you still wanna keep playing this and enjoy the gameplay but even that seemed to be dumbed down as far as I've heard from people that are more into this scene.

I mean, shit does it really matter at the end of the day?

Everyone on here or twitter is going to twist the translation to their benefit anyway. Guaranteed there's someone somewhere that says Guilty Gear is actually secretly super based because it admits that you can only be groomed into becoming trans. It's all a matter of perspective.

If you actually enjoyed the games to begin with then you can probably look past one weird translation discrepancy.

I think it would be better if Bridget literally just became more in touch with his feminine side than just believing he's a girl. Since he before he wanted others to look at him as a man than a girl it would make more sense that after his quest for dizzy failed and he failed to complete his objective he could just do some soul searching and realize he doesn't have to be a manly man to be a man, he can like his teddy bear and etc. He could just in the arcade with him realizing he doesn't need to be a manly man like Goldlewis or an absolute female, he could just be himself aka (He or She) and move on. (Not sure if I explained that well)

I feel like that is a better ending overall, this ending is just "Groomers win!" and Bridget literally giving up on disproving a dumbass superstition within his own hometown that could affect future children that grow up there. Like get groomed! if you so happen to pop out of your mum as a a set of male twins I guess.

To move on I am "somewhat disappointed" with Bridget's gameplay that being the yoyo setups. Only two directions for a yoyo that just pulls back and hits the opponent or let you sonic ball to it feels... so small. I 100% believe they could've added some other option onto the yoyo placement, ngl I was jaw dropped more at hearing Bridget was an "easy to pick" type than the trans shit. (However thank god they remove the Rodger x3 punchies trap, fuck you that was annoying)
