Just because it has happened doesn't mean the people that are selected are any more capable to handle it. You think EVERYONE everywhere knows about Chris or watches abhorrent shit like this all the time?

On the contrary, I think people make Chris out to be like some kind of celebrity, going so far as to paint pictures of all of Ruckersville and Charlottesville knowing who he is and hating his guts. Chris is a nobody with a niche internet following. People can handle a lot. Get off your high horse.

This case is special because this autismo has about 20 years of documented history on the internet and thousands of tartds on the internet trying to keep an eagle eye on this case. We all know that Chris is going to jail but how Chris does is the special part.

Nowun curr.

The whole thing with Chris pounding the Barbussy reminds me of one of the earliest Tales from the Crypt episodes, one from Season 2 in 1990 (I'm old).

The synopsis from IMDB is: "Enoch, the two-faced man, an attraction at a sideshow, falls in love with a 4,000 year old mummy, eventually leading up to the conception of their bastard child, The Crypt Keeper."
hey at least enoch and the mummy weren't related by blood....instead of incest it was harmless necrophilia. (though with barb its kinda hard to tell the difference.)

Hahahahahahahahahaha. The job of police is to find evidence of crimes, not to be fair.

Without getting to much into it, it is, technically, the job of the judge to ensure the trial, and proceedings in general, are fair. Which is why all motions, disagreements, objections, etc... are ruled on by him or her. It's Chris's attorney's job to hold the State to it's burden, to advocate for what "fair" means in the context of his client, and to advocate for the best outcome for his client.
I mean more in the sense of making sure that there isn't systematic abuse of the legal system. I don't think that is exactly the responsibility of a specific organization.

It's the job of the Judicial Branch. If there is "abuse" of a constitutional magnitude either through laws or the Executive Branch's (i.e. the police's/prosecuto's) actions, they have the moral duty and legal responsibility and authority to take various actions to uphold the Constitution.

the Commonwealth compels him to testify.

In theory Chris has the right to remain silent.

In reality it's getting him to shut the hell up that's the real trick. As Heilberg is now painfully aware.

Can a juror quit mid trial due to what they see? Or are they vetted in a way that akes sure they can handle it?

Generally anyone unable to handle the potential evidence would already be eliminated as unable to deliver an impartial decision. That said, a juror can quit, but they have to have a compelling reason (like having a heart attack during recess). That's why there are juror alternates.

Being an alternate juror is a real cocktease of an assignment. It has all the tedium of being a juror with none of the fun of deliberation or the satisfaction of convicting the defendant (or acquitting him). Major legal blue balls.

Juries see far worse. Mostly they'll see things medical transcripts. Interview reports. Testimony from the arresting officers. Maybe footage from inside 14BLC. It's not like Chris is a cannibal serial killer or the like. Worst case they might see some close up pictures of any bruising on Barb etc.

Chris is destined for the streets. He always has been. But it's the journey that matters, not the destination.

Zoomers have no clue how mindlessly boring the 1990s actually were in reality

It depends on where you were and what you were doing.

And at least the 1990s weren't completely fucking retarded.

But only after we had to suffer through almost a decade of atrociously bad 90s eurodance music - looking at you La Bouche

Jesus Jones. Enough said.

People who complain about the 1990s don't remember the 1970s.

Maybe this is a very stupid question, but are there any 'benefits' to being a felon for a person like Chris, i.e. slow-in-the-mind and financially unstable?

He gets to go to prison instead of the streets. For a while, anyways.

Are there any re-entry or similar programs

Chris would not take advantage of them.

Unfortunately, it won't be, trials regarding sex crimes in Virginia cannot be televised, even if the judge permits it.

I believe Christorians can still attend and take notes in the gallery. It's better than nothing. Any volunteers?

Heilberg's job is making sure Chris receives a fair trial.

The last thing Chris needs is a fair trial. If he gets a fair trial, he's fucked.

Heilberg's job has been to do his best to make a deal where Chris doesn't go to trial. But, well, Chris gonna be Chris.

Ah, makes more sense.

So.

What's the court thing tomorrow? Pre-Trial Motion? Are they aiming for another plea? Trying to get him declared nuts again as a form of hail mary? Is Heilberg trying to run away, citing Chris refusing to listen to him?

Well, the word "pre-trial" suggests a hearing before the trial. My guess would be laying out the framework to get the trial in motion. If the prosecutor decides to offer a plea deal they can before the trial begins. Whether or not Chris will be smart enough to actually take the deal is another kettle of fish entirely.

So interesting tidbit about about pre trial motions.

"Pre-trial motions are made to secure or exclude evidence, to change venue, or to end the case."

So it seems that it's likely Chris took a plea deal and it included facing felony charges...but this is Chris we're talking about here who knows what tomorrow will bring.

BetterCallSaul went to Nick Bate's trial and reported back, and that involved a minor. That guy was an actual attorney however so that may have made a difference.

I think maybe you're right, though.

It was also in a different state with different regulations and rules.
