Police need to have reason to believe that the object being seized was obtained through crime, used in crime, or evidence of a crime in order to seize it. Under the search warrant they would have reason to think that Keffal's devices were used in a crime (uttering threats). While Keffals is still a suspect they have no obligation to return anything relating to the investigation. During their investigation if they do find evidence of a crime unrelated to the current investigation they can and will charge him for that crime.
