Cartoon Network General

This is sadly true, though.

He shoots... and doesn't score. Rinse and repeat, and that's fine. Many cartoons in that era didn't have character arcs, let alone story arcs. That Nerdstalgic misses that point is disappointing, but not unexpected since so many cartoon reviewers (he's not just a cartoon reviewer, but he's talked about them enough that he counts) have gotten spoiled with cartoons from the late-2000s-onwards having story arcs somewhere in the wackiness.

It's honestly not that fair to compare-contrast cartoons from different eras if they weren't made by the same people, or if it was never explicitly stated that the older cartoon was an inspiration. He was on the right path with Courage since I guess there's actual continuity, but nah, serialized storytelling is a more modern thing, I guess.

Also I think Nerdstalgic missed another point in his video, too, by pointing out that Johnny Bravo is--whoa, mama! A misogynist!--yet was also stylized in '70s decor and demeanor. Like of course Johnny is shocked, SHOCKED! that there are successful women out there. He's not "getting with the times, man". (The line "A lady doctor? Has science come that far???" is hilarious knowing that.) Maybe dude just wants himself a trophy wife, but he's misguided, for sure. And that's why it's funny, since he doesn't learn his lesson.

Or for fuck's sake, it's just a cartoon and you're not supposed to be looking much deeper into it.
I also hate when no one really points out the positives of Bravo. A big reason why people, both men and surprisingly a lot of women like him is because he genuinely is a great guy under the facade.

We are talking about a man who got the hottest girl in high school to go out with him, but felt he was unworthy and worked to really improve himself and his appearance for her sake. A guy who got cat-fished by an antelope, yet continued to date her so she would not feel bad. Johnny’s determination, while very misguided, at least has him try to meet the standards of the girl he wants to date. It was also revealed that he has issues with being loved, and that he really does appreciate his friends and family, but pushes them away out of fear.
If/when Johnny actually gets a chance, the dude really does put his all in and makes for a good companion. On surface level he is an ass, but deep down he really deserves the win.

Even so, it's meant for laughs. Notice how he's a buffoon that rarely gets the lady. But we love him BECAUSE he's a buffoon for comic relief. Nobody looks UP to him as a figure of male dominance.

So, I am a decent fan of Panty & Stocking as I love its crude humor and the ost is fantastic. In saying this, I was pretty surprised to see that Cartoon Network actually referenced the show by creating their own version of the Scanty and Kneesocks theme.

Cartoon Network was wild in the early 2010s. I am impressed with how aware they were of their Rebel-Taxi type audience back then.

Also, if anyone can find a full version of the song, that would be amazing.

I don’t mind a black PPG, but the designs for Blossom and Bubbles look terrible. I will give Buttercup some credit as the face looks significantly better and has makeup that fits the colors. Otherwise it feels like generic Cal-Arts trash. How is this supposed to sell PPG eyeliner. Better yet, why is there PPG eyeliner?

The XD emote in the top rating ones is the cherry on the cake.

I think these were traced from another artist. I can't find the standalone pictures but look at the Blossom in this picture. It looks really really similar.

The "artist" is suspicious (and fat) too. He has 22k followers and yet all his posts that aren't his blacksploitation fanwank gets under 100 likes and even less retweets. It's not the first time CN promoted stolen/reposted artwork from a fraud and it won't be the last.

I guess I should post about the 30th here, though I was beaten by the Western animation thread:

I hate the new color pallet CN is using. I know the Check It Era wasn't the best, but it certainly looked better than this.
Personally, I remember the 20th anniversary as the channel went all out, so if this can emulate that it will be good, otherwise I am not optimistic.

I also want to credit Danishi on Twitter and Instagram for posting way better art for the 30th than CN:

I remember when CN first came on and like someone else said, it's when Nick was winding down. Nickelodeon probably hit its peak in 1994 with cartoons and live shows. I'll never forget watching with my siblings or sisters Salute Your Shorts, Legends of the Hidden Temple, GUTS, Wild and Crazy Kids, etc. I remember in school we'd use to talk shit and say if any of us ever got on GUTS, we'd surely win that big ass green trophy.

As far CN, I remember absolutely loving Dexter's Lab
Johnny Bravo
PPG
SWAT Katz
Real Adventures of Johnny Quest (still the best cartoon intro imo)
Ed, Edd, n Eddy
ReBoot, etc

Cartoon Network was, like many others of my generation, my first introduction to anime with Robotech, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Ronin Warriors, Gundam, etc. I think I fell out of all this in the late 90s/early 2000s. I was entering my teenage years, South Park was blowing up, had shows like Malcolm in the Middle, That 70s Show etc that appealed to me more. Gradually stopped watching TV entirely as I got older, it just wasn't as cool as being a teenager and hanging out with my friends.

They definitely should be showing off any and all original CN movies that they can. Dexters Ego Trip, EEnE Big Picture Show, the SU movie, Regular Show movie and so on. Also: No marathons, just blocks of classic and modern shows.

Now isn't the time to be conservative. You've got thirty years of media, be proud of that fact and flaunt it.

Holy fuck, that color pallet is repulsive. Between that and some of their more recent programming, they might as well change their name to Cartroon Network at this point.
