(CNN) - The FBI sought to locate classified documents related to nuclear weapons, among other items, when agents searched former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, this week, people familiar with the investigation told The Washington Post.

The people did not offer additional details to the Post about what the agents were seeking or whether any documents were recovered.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday that he "personally approved" the decision to seek a warrant for the search of Trump's Florida home.

"The department does not take such a decision lightly. Where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken," Garland said in a news conference.

Lets assume for a moment these reports are all true. Lets also give Trump the benefit of the doubt by assuming he's retarded enough to accidentally take pages upon pages of highly classified nuclear intelligence to his Florida crackshack. From what I heard, Trump was keeping all of these documents in a storage locker in the basement of Mar-a-Lago. The feds have been aware of this for some time, but were hesitant to go after him aggressively for a lot of obvious reasons. They had been working with his attorneys for a while and did manage to get the really top secret shit back, but there were still things that Trump was keeping from them — apparently, he didn’t respond to a subpoena about it just a few months ago. So Garland just said fuck it and went after him because Trump is violating the law.

Looking forward to learn what kind of documents were exactly found. I don't think it's gonna be something as big as nuclear launch codes, most likely it's gonna be some rather boring documents, but still documents that need to go to the archive.
Thing is, even if it's just the menu of food served at a meeting, if the federal law states it has to be preserved in the federal archives, it goes to the federal archives. No matter how mundane the document might be, if the law says these documents have to be treated a certain way, they need to be treated that way. Full stop.
