Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

What annoys me about these guys is they never talk about why people want to have cars and live in suburbs. Also there are very real societal issues that prevent public transport from developing, which tbeg never address.

For example, at one point there was a proposal to connect BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) to the peninsula. I believe that was killed because people living in suburban silicon valley didn't want people from Oakland and SF to just be able hop on a train and flood into their neighborhoods. People moved to suburbs to get away from crime, drugs, and degeneracy rampant in American urban centers. They don't want their neighborhoods to be easily accessible for that reason.

Man, at least with a car I have to get up to like 55 and tag a concrete divider before it'll punch me in the face with an airbag- Imagine choosing a form of transportation that gives you ED by design, lol

This buzzword used by burgers has become as useful as "ironic" humor. It's completely devoid of any meaning now.

A correctly sized and adjusted saddle will not give you ED. Everyone complaining of numbness or loss of sex drive after cycling is mashing their taint into a cheap saddle.

What bothers me about modern cycling is the consumerism. Cyclists are awful. You had guys doing Paris-Roublaix on steel bikes with no gears in cotton clothes, but nowadays you can't even look at a bike without the impression you need $6k of kit to ride it.

There are enough bikes on earth right now to give one to anyone who wants one. But the industry still shits out more. And the new bikes all have battery driven gears on proprietary systems and are made of carbon. No longevity.

What are you Ethan Ralph? I've noticed this is a pattern with you types. You throw out ridiculous figures consistently like "$50,000 truck" or whatever like used cars don't exist and literally every car driver is driving around a fully loaded brand new pickup truck. Can you just admit you don't know what vehicles cost because you can't scrape up the money for a car payment?

Even if your inflated figures were true, still better than sharing the bus with nonwhites.

I was going to say this in the other thread, but then you regurgitated it here; why can't you make a compelling argument without some sort of projectionism?

First and foremost, pretty much no-one buys a car on payment anymore. As much as car manufacturers would like that to be the case, it will likely never happen again as they build overcomplicated pieces of shit that are designed so they can't be worked on by anyone, and most people who aren't black or white trash (like the Mega Motors snowbunny) are no longer retarded enough to fall for predatory car dealers. In addition, for those who do pay maintenance/insurance etc., sure it's not needed for your daily life but neither is electricity or internet, but you still pay for those, don't you?

And as has been stated earlier in the thread, whether you like it or not, cars are one of the last things a person is legally allowed to own that can't be fucked with by the government in any way. You can't remote control a '70s luxobarge into a telephone pole or monitor what the driver is saying with the windows shut if it doesn't even have an Onstar. It signifies what a horse used to signify a few centuries ago; you had access to a small piece of freedom that could transport you wherever you wanted, much to the envy of peasants. Without one, you're a serf like everyone else.

Eddy Merckx's geriatric old ass alone has more balls than 90% of all cyclists born after 1990.

Firstly, the F150 is the best selling car in America, so it’s not that hyperbolic to mention “every one is buying big ass pickup trucks”

Car payments with insurance are also a burden

Average car payment + average car insurance, it’s very simple. Not everyone is going to have cash on hand to buy the car in full. Since it’s basically a requirement to have a car to do anything in the US, people willfully go into outrageous car payments out of desperation.

Also, used cars are not a panacea. Do you really want to risk getting stranded with some junker because you decided to cheap out? Why can’t you just admit that being reliant on one form of transportation to do everything is a shit idea?

Could we try and relegate the debating about urbanism etc to the various threads that preceded this one?

Eh, a ridiculous amount of people at least in southern states buy pickups and use them as mall crawlers.
Yeah but not to the fucking tune of like 1.1 million a year or some shit when like the next two best selling vehicles basically have to be added up to get to F150 sales (Camry I think is next best selling around like half a million). Like every rent a truck Home Depot are F150s, Uhaul rentals are F150s, when I was young and worked contractor shit it was an F150, cabinet installing guys I knew did F150s. Debate whether or not a family farm F150 that gets driven to the bar on Saturday is a "mall crawler" or not it's a work vehicle- Ostensibly company vehicle. I'm speaking to why the sales figures are what they are and it's not a million plus Karen pavement queens hoovering up F150s.

Why are you just making shit up? Are you banking on that I'm too lazy to provide statistics?

You seriously equate Electricity and the Internet to owning a car? Maybe if you're American you need a car for you to live properly, I understand that since cities were demolished to make it exclusively car dependent. What I'm saying is that it shouldn't be necessary to own a vehicle. It's an extra burden. You should be able to have reliable alternatives to get where you need to go. Walking, biking, trains, or whatever else could save an individual from the burden and upkeep of owning a vehicle.

And as has been stated earlier in the thread, whether you like it or not, cars are one of the last things a person is legally allowed to own that can't be fucked with by the government in any way. Except that it can be impounded if you park in the wrong parking space, cannot legally be driven without the proper safety requirements, can be seized in an audit, is inefficient at not driving on roads not paved by the government, and you need a license to operate it. If you want to go by lolbert philosophy, Walking is the one of the things that provides you with the most freedom from the government. You don't need a license to walk, and you can walk where there is and isn't pavement. Hell, "jaywalking" was an inherent freedom to walk on the street whenever you wanted. Now it's a crime. Your rights have been infringed without even you noticing.

Not owning a car makes you "lower" because big corporations in tandem with the government decided to curate an environment that makes owning one of their products give you freedom of movement. When in fact it is probably one of the biggest gaslighting campaigns in history to give you the illusion of freedom.

It gets bought as a fleet vehicle by companies you fucking sped.
What? Who is using f150s in the majority of their fleet? Most retail giants like Walmart, Target, and CoCa-cola use 18 wheelers. Amazon, Fedex, USPS, and UPS all use vans. I certainly don't know of any pickup trucks in taxi services. The only comapny I know of that uses f150s in their fleets is Uhaul. I would like to know where you go this information.

Contractors, roofing companies, construction companies, drywalling companies, lawn service, rental utility ala Home Depot/Lowes/Uhaul. painting, US government outlets.

USA Today/JD Power and associates/corroborating Ford sales figures.
Some 40% of those sales are to fleet customers.
