I wish this were part of pre surgery discussion: sitting in the hospital while someone has surgery or right after they get out is a boring waste of time. Despite what is shown on TV, almost nothing happens with such urgency that you can’t just request a phone call if your presence is needed.
If she somehow does stay for 2-5 days, there will be staff (god help them) available to help her, and she’ll only really need Joh’s help once she’s home.
In my own experience, 99% of being in the hospital is either napping, getting poked for tests or flipping between boring television channels, unless you were prepared enough to bring a book or your phone/tablet. If you're sick enough to be in there, you're probably not up to chatting with a guest and if you are up to it, you don't need to be there. It's not a fucking vacation or break or a chance to fatten up on that so, so yummy hospital food. The nurses might give you a mini can of generic soda but there are no endless cans of Mello Yellow and no one should mistake their rubbery eggs and dry sausage as a Jimmy Dean bowl.

I don't know what her hospital's protocol is, but absolutely they would do that here. They would take and brief the spouse (or whoever) and then send them home. Especially since there are delays and other things that happen so it's not like a perfect timing situation. Then the surgeon usually calls post op to report on how it went and when to collect the person. Easy peasy.

PollyYeastyPockets is gonna be mighty disappointed in her non-soap-opera-lying-in-state hospital experience when she gets punted in 3 hours.

:story:

She kills me. 6 days for a hysto? Like I've mentioned before, I almost died during mine and I wasn't even in the hospital 6 damn days. Unless her surgeon is terrible at his job and majorly majorly fucks up, she'll be out the next day at the most.

And her sperging about "only having lyft and uber." Lots of places don't even have those and yet the world still chugs on, people find their way to work and to the store without owning a car and they manage to do so without screaming for fast food on Twitter and fb.

I wish there was an apocalypse so these useless twats could actually struggle. Just imagine. Zombies roam the earth, raiders are raping and thieving. And there's polissa, boring her neighbors emergency radio to broadcast that she needs Jimmy deans because her bfs last paycheck got lost in the mail when the post office burnt down

Or she could have some complications (I genuinely don’t wish for this) and complain about how she’s dying and that no-ones cares but gib money just incase Joh ends up on his own with the animal horde.

My mom had one and she was up and working the day after. She definitely shouldn't have been, but the point stands.

Eta: don't public housing and welfare assistance require money management classes if you can't work? I assume Polissa has some exemption from work requirement if she's not constantly complaining about having to prove to the gubment she's applied to jobs.
This may vary on a program and a location basis. We could probably debate the merits behind financial literacy being a requirement for these programs (and as a high school course) ad nauseum, but none of that would help Polissa because she has no interest in behind told how to manage her money when she can just demand other people pay her bills for her.

Someone close to me was telling me that where they grew up (outside the US) a lot of people in their community walked everywhere and a lot of people never had a car.
When I visited a friend in Europe, they had no car and they didn't really need one except to borrow a friend's to take me to and from the airport because the city had a good public transit system that would put most American cities' systems to shame. We were able to take the city bus anywhere within the greater city area and downtown for a nominal flat fare. The city also had plenty of non-motorized trails that made it easy to walk to and from neighborhoods to major areas such as the university, shops, parks, etc. The same paths apparently double as snowmobile trails in the winter.

The takeaway for Polissa is that no matter what the situation is, there is always an option for her and Josh to get somewhere if it's important or urgent enough. It might not be optimal and it might require effort and sacrifice, but one usually exists. If she can't be bothered putting effort into making the situation work, she deserves whatever consequences come with that (in)action.

The gas pain can be pretty intense but the way to help relieve that is to walk. Walk till you fart it out.

I bet polissa will just roll around in her hospital bed, claiming her gas pain is worse than anyone's ever experienced. That'll be her way of staying in the hospital

As we get closer to the uterus yeeting, here is Polissa being clueless about what happens to “those like her” in Gilead

Spoilers: they are executed for being useless in both physical labor and baby making. Shocking, I know. It’s pretty explicit in the book. I’d assume the show would’ve addressed it early on too.

Polly is dumb as rocks and clearly lacks comprehension of what she consumes, though, so I am not that shocked that she didn’t catch or understand it. Also it makes it all the funnier that she thought she’d be a Handmaid in a hypothetical Gilead.

The Handmaid's Tale is a fucked up book (not the most fucked up one I've ever read), but I don't regret reading it.

I don't understand why people would join a fan group for it--or watch that tv series that was made, but that's just me.

Also: I doubt Polly Pocket read the book, probably watched the tv series or whatever it was.

The Handsmaids' Tale is cancon (Canadian content) so everyone I knew read it in high school. It's okay. The TV show seems like a deeply unpleasant viewing experience, although the costume design is quite good.

Polissa would work or die, the same way she would in nearly all human situations. To the extent that a society can or will care for the fully disabled, it doesn't extend to workshy thirty-somethings.

Lmao she doesn't read.

I liked the book a lot but found the series tedious because of its constant trump-era-liberal political pandering. It already feels dated in a way the book doesn't, despite having been written like thirty years beforehand.

It's a prime example of taking a good book and making it palatable for LCD consoomer retards who think they're smart for having base-level political debates on Twitter and need to see their own views reflected back to them on TV, because God forbid they encounter moral grey areas, people whose opinions differ from their own, or anything that doesn’t feed their sense of self-righteousness.

AA is an addiction recovery structure and attracts struggling addicts who are self aware and want to get sober; the religious nuances are there with the 'higher power', thought it not necessarily a god, and it doesn't matter one bit to me personally anyway - people go there because they realise that they have a problem, and it is negatively affecting their lives, and they're willing to try and get better. addiction is so hard to overcome and for an addict to address and realise that they have a problem in the first place is way better than polissa has ever done in her life. she is a useless, fat, animal abusing grifter that does not want to better herself in anyway and would prefer to sit around doing fuck all and beg on the internet.

polissa of all people criticising addiction recovery makes me MATI. any addict trying to recover is a better human being than her.

I'm sure she's begged up more than 80k worth of shit over her Twitter career. She's used up current followers' good will and all those "down with capitalism!" posters she's trying to get in good with are broke as fuck. Then to follow that with, "I'm not retweeting you because it'll cut into my grift." Polissa is a grifty greedy gremlin who sees everyone else as an ATM, and I will not touch her hysterectomy hole. #mutualaid!

Whether she read it or not, she can't understand the context of a 500 word article more than half the time so I don't expect she would have absorbed anything other than the most obvious surface level shit out of a book.

It may be the religious factor that sets her off but many drug rehabs are funded by churches or Christian groups in the South. They all do preach the Jesus will heal you stuff but the bottom line is the addict has to want to change and any program to help someone achieve that goal shouldn’t be shat upon by the likes of Polissa. If she was “raised on AA” it’s not AAs fault is all I’m sayin.

It's super serious, guize.

I’m not sure how her utilities work with payments but I’m wondering if her last grift she kept some of that power bill money for herself. She can weave such a yarn of woe is me so she should be able to talk them into an extension but maybe that’s what this is. At this point anyone who is stupid enough to pay her bill should pay it directly to the city of Florence.

@glass_houses my utilities are also a city operated thing and they don’t play. Unless you can sob story it up they will cut your shit off 11days past the due date(the 26th) and charge you to turn it back on. And although I’ve never tried to extend my pay date, I bet you can only pull on their heart strings in the dead middle of winter with grandma living with you. I have forgotten to pay my bill and been awoken at 8am by the district sounds of my shit being shut down. That reconnect fee is no joke. It was good lesson on adulting.

ETA: I wasn’t the only one in line to pay to get my shit turned back on. I had to listen to several sob stories before my “yes, I’m just an idiot” turn to pay.

The utilities company is threatening to shut down the account over a pissing $225? Just how long have they been in arrears?
I'd guess she's two months overdue and hasn't bothered to call the utility company to work a payment plan out. They don't like shutting people off and nine times out of ten will be happy if you just call to let them know your situation and give them something, like maybe that money for a pizza she didn't need or money she spent on weed because she was too stressed out. Poorlissa and Joh never think ahead. The power bill rolls around at the same time every month, is usually roughly the same amount every time and if you're already behind, you know they're going to threaten to turn you off especially if they think you're ignoring the bill.

If Joh is already so beloved at work, why hasn't he gone to his boss and told him what a bind the check mix up has put him in? You'd think the boss would figure something out rather than letting his star employee get his power turned off. Of course that's assuming Poorlissa isn't lying about the direct deposit snafu. :optimistic:

Eta: @weaselhat - my utility company is also city-run but they're pretty nice. I don't know if it's just the area of the country I'm in (NE) but they can't turn you off in the winter and only get really serious about turning you off the rest of the year if you're multiple months past due or in late fall because they know if you don't get it paid before winter they're stuck until spring.
