This relates to the grandmother with dementia story, because there's a reason so many scams have obvious spelling errors or logical mistakes in them. It does a good job of weeding out who the scammers would regard as timewasters - that is, people who don't send them money. So scams looking illegitimate is actually useful, because the people who respond despite it seeming so obvious to the rest of us are the people who are more likely to just send money no matter what warning signs appear. If it looked more legitimate on the surface, they'd get more interest, but not from people who would actually pay out - they might be interested, but something else will trigger their alarm bells before the actual giving of money, and reeling them in is usually a lot more work for a much smaller chance of a payout.

So Luke's scam benefits from his stupidity in that way. Most sensible people would look into his e-begging and realise he's lying or untrustworthy in general, and not donate. But the people who are too stupid to notice the warning signs that he's full of shit, or too idpol-addled that they ignore all their instincts and insist Trans Women Are Women - well, they're such useful idiots that they'll actually do Luke's 'job' for him and try to convince other people that any doubts are transphobic.

These are exactly the sort of victims scammers want, people who mindlessly believe and give and who take all evidence that they're being scammed and turn it into reasons why their scammer actually deserves the money  more, because everyone is lying about them, everyone is out to get him!
