Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

I think some of the non-US members here don't know how local government works in the USA.

The way I understand it you can only vote for a city government if you live within the city limits, and those limits are fixed. If the city expands in size that adjacent area can be incorporated as another city, and have its own municipality which is completely separate from the original city. This is why people say that the inhabitants of the suburbs don't have a say in the central city municipality - they are literally unable to vote there.

If I got some of this wrong, please correct me. I'm also not from the US.

In most other countries things don't work like that. (Maybe London and its "Square Mile" shit are similar, but that nonsense is completely autistic.)

The usual situation outside the USA is that suburbs are incorporated into the parent city and their inhabitants vote for and can become candidates for election to the municipal government.

PS: @Markass the Worst , would it be possible to have the thread split into the original and a separate one for the debatebros?

I saw this thread. A few of them proposed sticking razor blades on the end. Remember, these are the same people that will lecture you about how unsafe your car makes the roads.

"No no officer, I wasn't making boobytraps. I was just trying to make those dang dirty carbrains respect my heckin' distance! You should really be arresting them!"

And to anyone still claiming there isn't enough milk to warrant a thread, fuckcars by itself has enough milk to last through the winter. I'll agree NJB, Adam Something and the others don't produce much milk but give it time. These people will get more and more demented with time. Extended time as an internet content creator is rarely conducive to mental health.

Anyone upset by cyclists unintentionally out themselves as being fat.
Anyone upset by cars unintentionally out themselves as being poor.

This is not true. Cities can annex other cities. An example is the City of Ballard which was annexed by Seattle in 1907. The most recent Seattle annexation was in 1986 and included "Portions of Section 32, Township 26 N, Range 4 E, W.M., and Sections 5 and 6, Township 23 N, Range 4 E, W.M." The term "city" really means "code city." A code city has a population of at least 1,500 people and has more governing rights than a town which is why, especially on the west coast, everything is a city and there are very few towns. Cities rarely make public transit decisions themselves and it is usually voted on a county level.

What @Cyberpunk Panatela said is correct in the absence of annexation, which is a lot less popular today than it historically has been. Seattle doesn't control Bellevue or any of its other suburbs and none of them would ever allow Seattle to annex them. Annexation isn't popular because it means giving up local control of your area for no real benefit. Neighborhoods that were once independent like Buckhead in Atlanta are trying to de-annex themselves because the city redistributes their tax money and underinvests in their infrastructure and services.

You are correct though that transit is often done at a regional level.

Im glad this finally got a thread. Im tired of seeing this shit in my youtube feed.

I watched one of "not just bikes" videos because someone recommended it as a good channel. I saw autism red flags in the video left and right but I finished it, every single comment was "america is...le bad" and I had to ignore the channel and similar ones in my recommendations for weeks afterwards. I knew instantly he was special but I had no idea he was full on retarded.

But the thing is, the person recommending this channel was actually suggesting it as a superior alternative to the channel called "adam something." So you can only imagine the nuclear levels of autism present on that channel.

I actually have an interest in urban design, mostly because I want America to be better. But this whole clique is so utterly insufferable it will definitely kill the whole movement just like what happened to renewable energy. They can't just promote good design practices, they have to tie it in with a bunch of intersectional garbage about how everything in america is terrible and we need socialism. Just like what happened with clean energy, these urbanists will just end up promoting useless garbage the government wants to increase control instead of real solutions.

I guarantee you if you actually let any of these guys design a city it would turn out to be a brutalist hellscape 10x worse than anything they criticize, (like Chandigarh, le corbusiers city in india but worse) because they are all woke liberals that hate tradition and beauty. Similarly to how every film critic on youtube ends up making a terrible movie.

This is a larger rant, but theres this archetype on the internet of soy boy looking guys that have to project how smart they are, how much they love SCIENCE and LEARNING and MATH and have to be qwerky and make pop culture references constantly while giving surface level, wikipedia style summaries and understandings of various intellectual topics, apparently because they aren't actually smart enough to specialize and get a real job in one of the related fields. Whether it be hank green or whatever his name is, that bald faggot with glasses that has like 15 channels where he summarizes wikipedia articles, or xkcd, the most unfunny webcomic in existance. Consuming their content is a neurotoxin that will turn you into a balding middle aged reddit user twitter addict.

If you want some better channels about the topic, I've seen some videos from "City Beautiful" and he doesn't seem bad. "The Urban Doctor" is also pretty good, able to criticize cars and american city design without going into hysterics.

They sound pretty based ngl
Can I just say how much I hate it when people like you use the word "based"

Holy fucking hell this is beyond delusional. I can concede that bikes are fine for short trips but this is on a whole other level. No protection from the elements when the bike is in operation and good luck entering a city with that thing. Hell, how the fuck do you drive on highways with that thing? Bikes are admittedly pretty decent at adverse terrain but it's kind of a different story when you're hauling a mini-camper. This literally gives you the disadvantages of both with none of the advantages other than that "quirky and original xD" vibe that redditors eat up with a spoon.

Here's a tip for you redditurds. If no one has tried it before, it's probably for a good reason.

I don’t blame him for acting like he is irritated all of the time, because you have to deal with retards like in this thread who label you anti-car and think you want to make everyone live in Victorian slums. Plus of how arrogant the boomer politicians are when it comes to this sort of thing. Cars are le freedom has been the status quo for for 60-70 years.

NJB has a few videos promoting good driving and how good infra is a win-win for people. The spergs who created this thread are adamant that anyone advocating form of change to the urban environment is “YOURE SOYBOI HAHAHA CUCK, WHAT A LOSER” or “UR POOR LOL DONT OWN CAR” and is automatically associated with the weirdos on r/fuckcars. Especially for the Strong Towns guys who actually tries to do things that can make real change.

City beautiful
Ehhh, I find his voice slightly annoying. His videos are decent but he is the caricature that people are trying to portray NJB as. Still good though

Urban doctor
I like his guitar riff and simplistic explaining style. Wish he uploaded more.
I would also recommend “Road guy rob” to you if urban planning does interest you.

I'm going to assume that the average user doesn't have a job they need to get to in a timely manner. Probably don't have to deal with winter either, seeing as dealing with ice is a horrid experience on a bike.

I like that fuckcars has found a roundabout way to make fat-shaming on reddit okay again. If I call you a fat fuck and you should lose some weight, that's fatphobia. If I call you a fat fuck that needs to get on a bike, that's okay because I'm commenting on the nature of car-centric infrastructure! Because as we are all aware it's physically impossible to exercise unless you're being forced to by all other options being confiscated. Remember that these are the same people that banned r/fatpeoplehate before r/coontown.

That thing is ridiculous. I can imagine someone trying to sell that: "Sirji, look over this rickshaw-caravan! Very cheap, also fully electric. Tell you what, I'll give you special discount today: 50%"

The username "zeronullanon" sounds familiar. There's a small but shrill "green movement" called "zero growth, nil emissions" who are mostly based in Europe and are hated by everyone except themselves.

They advocate for retarded shit like complete abolition of central heating and want all new land development to cease. Their dream is for GDP to stay constant. All of this bullshit is euphemistically called "belt-tightening" They also block roads in "protest actions". The Communists particularly despise them.

Holy shit, Josh is secretly an urbanist cuck in disguise. No wonder he moved to Europe!

How do you cook? Where do you store your water? Can you even sleep in that? It can't be good for your back.

If they used real language in their arguments instead of autistic bugman babble like "stroad", "road violence" and "carbrained" and actually argued their points like functional adults instead of overgrown entitled children who throw a tantrum whenever they remember that jaywalking is a crime for a reason (a man who is sat inside a two-ton piece of machinery at over 30 - 40 MPH and with limited vision due to blind spots should not have to stop because a leftist manchild didn't feel like using a crossing).

You are but the crowd you keep. If NJB and Adam make a video denouncing r/fuckcars, we might change our opinion, but they have remained clandestinely silent for the moment, and whose userbase easily makes a good half or so of their viewerbase. It also doesn't help that they frequently associate and collaborate with other lolcows. Chances are if most of the people you conduct business with would have had their own ED articles 10 - 15 years ago, you should probably consider working with someone else.

"Jaywalking" being a crime is really only a US thing. In the real world most people will exercise a level of common sense when crossing a street (looking both ways, waiting until they have enough time to cross, etc.), the rest of the world finds it puzzling that the country that put a man on the moon apparently can't figure out how to do this.

The /r/fuckcars subreddit has people say silly stuff on it from time to time, sure, but that's because it's a subreddit for blowing off steam and venting about how things suck, it's inevitable people will sometimes go too far in an environment like that. /r/urbanplanning is where people go if they want to have a sensible discussion.

NJB himself really doesn't produce any milk, as far as youtubers go he's pretty low-key and doesn't seem to involve himself in drama. Adam Something is a different story, I know he pals around with Vaush and has had spats with Hasan, but that could already be covered in the BreadTube thread.

These types are insufferable and I actually let a friendship go because the dude in question became so hostile about cars. It started before the ascent of Trump but that sent him into overdrive.

Because it’s not about cars; it’s about drivers. It’s about people having the audacity to do whatever the fuck we want to do and not approaching the authorities cap in hand for permission to live. To these types, that is simply unacceptable.

Terms you deem to be "autistic babble" have meaning in the context of what they are talking about. This entire garbage thread is prime "Mad at the internet". The only thing that actually qualifies as lolcows are redditors and Adam "Nuclear holocaust isn't that bad" something . You are too much of a sperg to consider that words have meaning by trivialising them for your retardation and stickers. You created a picture of who you want them to be and say.

Your opinion has already been made up. You vehemently denounce what they believe in irregardless of if they object to r/fuckcars or not. You aren't just being unfair, but activley malicious. This is exactly the type of dumb "joyless" shit jersh was talking about. People have different opinions than you, grow the fuck up. It's funny too how you mention "oh well they haven't denounced them and they talked to other lolcows so that automatically makes them one" is the same backwards logic reddit leftards use when trying to call anyone a facisct. "You talk to a nazi, you've been around nazis, you're a nazi".

What actually happened:
>"Dude I wish that we didn't have to use a car to do everything, it would be nice to have alternatives to get around."
>"WTF, DUDE YOU HATE FREEDOM YOU FUCKING FAGGOT? I BET YOU THINK ALL TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE NAZIS, LOSER. YOU WILL NEVER TAKE AWAY MY GOD GIVEN RIGHT AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN. STAY MAD COMMUNIST!"
>"uh... whatever you say man"

Drivers are free from the grasp of tyrannical governments, that's why they don't apply for a driver's license to legally drive, don't take out mandatory insurance, don't take their cars to undergo mandatory emissions tests, don't obey speed limits, don't limit their alcohol consumption before driving, and most certainly don't drive on publicly-funded roads and highways.

Yeah man, that's kind of the point. I don't care about the sanitized public-facing persona they're presenting, I care what they're saying when they think they aren't being watched by people outside of their little clique. If the news caught a liberal politician saying "fuck niggers" behind closed doors, he's likely not gonna get a pass because "sorry I was venting and I went a bit too far oopsie doopsie". It's why Twitter liberals in general are so entertaining and horrifying, because they're saying the things the people with suits and super-PACs are afraid to say but probably believe.

Those are constraints placed on you by the government, not the technology itself. I also didn't toss all my guns in the garbage and buy 14th century broadswords because the government made me register them. And if you don't think you'd be under even harsher regulation if you were reliant on public transit, why don't you go ask the Chinese how that's going?
