Yeah, possible. I'm ESL and hungover so it's most likely on my end. I believe I ultimately agree with you on the part about setting expectations but I don't think blaming only unicorns for being spergs is right.I think there's something of a language disconnect here because "irrational but the reasoning is sound" is a contradictory thing to say. And when you said before they were justified it would mean it's good or legitimate, which goes against the acceptance that it's a delusion on their part.
this would be like if my grandma got scammed over the phone by a "nigerian prince" needing her to transfer him money and I said "well her reasoning was sound and her choice was legitimate"
It's just..... no, idiots that fall for stupid shit are still idiots even if there's an explanation that led them to making that stupid choice. The choice itself was stupid regardless of the circumstances leading up to it. If someone becomes a retarded unicorn because they were pandered too, they aren't suddenly in the right, they're a fucking mark that fell for the bait, which makes them still retarded. the person themselves feels justified, but that too is part of their delusion.
Key point here being that explanation and justification are two separate things.
I don't fault unicorns for getting mad when the chuba they invested their feelings, time and money in supporting - even if it's extremely dumb to get that attached to someone online, especially when it's an uneven relationship where monetary compensation is involved - goes against the image they inferred from the agency's reputation and they weren't corrected by the talent on what exactly to expect from her. It's about as much about the betrayal of expectations as about a sense of having been taken advantage and made a fool of - which makes it personal and justified even if they're still morons. If you go to a vegetarian fast food join and are served a burger that is one of the few that contains meat - and you aren't informed of it - you're absolutely justified in being dissatisfied.
Hololive definitely made an impression that it's pandering to the "purity" type of an idol and knowingly profited from courting that audience even if they tried to distance themselves from it when the… obvious problems with that approach started cropping up. The jokes about YAGOO's idol dream didn't come from the void after all and the way they manage their homos only reinforces that. This is what I meant by the default unwritten contract - the expectation that there will be no males in the picture is already there and it's on talents to indicate otherwise, in a sufficiently tactful way to not come off as abrasive. Some do it to at most minor backlash, some were straight about the expectations from the beginning (like a certain diamond in the rough), some just avoid the topic altogether until they can no longer afford ignoring it.
There are many reasons why unicorns are allergic to males but the ones thinking they somehow have a chance - as someone mentioned earlier - are a rare breed of a unicorn that's beyond help. A big chunk knowingly play out a fantasy where the 2D girl they like on the screen is supported by them and any disruption of this illusion (I guess I mixed up the definition here, delusion would be when they no longer are capable of recognizing reality
