Even worse is that he has had to make up a narrative about fraud in order to keep Katherine from strangling him. A long time ago, I thought it was a paniced response, aimed at his fans, that he would surely later memory-hole. It was very odd to me that he didn't try the old "It's all made up" lie, and it has been even more surprising to see him keep the fraud narrative going. He even leaned into the ridiculous amount of money that that would've had him losing if it were true, despite it exposing him as a liar about how tight his finances are.
Phil is trying to placate somebody here, and it isn't the people giving him money. We're way past the point where it makes any sense to worry about them finally figuring out that he's a gigantic liar, and/or actually giving a shit. And besides that, it never made any sense to take such a risk by inviting more questions with the kind of lie Phil chose to address the bank leaks with. I said it back then, and I stand by it today: the best response was to state that detractors were fabricating a breach, and that none of the information was real. He did that with the Discord leak that exposed him as being NotDSP.
Someone is preventing Phil from getting away with that option. Someone he can't run from, mute, or simply cut loose from his life like he did with his parents after they noticed how bad he is with money. Not saying this will lead to a divorce arc, but that the fear of it is what keeps the fraud lie going. Kat knows about the leaks, and she didn't just disregard them, she asked Phil about them, and he went right to the lie I would expect him to in such a confrontation.
No wonder he calls her "mom", Kat is better at that role than Linda, thanks to how fucking warped his brain is.
