The first time she went for the test she "did not feel comfortable" having the genital swabs, so she was never tested. The supposition at the time was that she didn't want anyone seeing the mess her nether regions were in or couldn't get in a position for them to be tested. IE, can't spread her legs far enough on her back for her genitals to be reached. Regardless, she hasn't had anyone in the medical field look at her nether regions since her hysterectomy.
It was even more negligent and ridiculous on her part than she didn't want a swab.
She took issue with the fact you have to take the swab to the bathroom and swab yourself and return it to the doctor for collection.
Which is totally normal in sexual health clinics. I volunteered at one in another Canadian province, and for certain tests we asked patients to swab for themselves in the bathroom we provided.
If the person legitimately could not do it themselves (disability, or not comfortable) they could request the doctor do it. However, as doctors usually volunteer their time to these clinics we would let the patient know if you wanted the doctor to swab you you may have to wait longer to get tests done.
There are a lot of STI tests that if the patient is willing to swab, can be handled by the clinic volunteer staff (I routinely bagged and tagged samples after patients came out of the bathroom and gave me their sample bottles).
This allows people to get in and out quickly and to get easy to do testing done without seeing a doctor.
Additionally, many patients, particularly women, prefer to swab themselves as a matter of comfort, and to not have a stranger sticking a swab in their private parts (I know for most of us it is no big deal, but for SA or childhood sex abuse survivors they may panic even when it is a medical professional going under the hood). Plus, most sexually active women have been dealing with their periods for years so they can easily follow the swabbing instructions.
Chantal got all huffy over the offer to swab herself and blamed it on Covid protocol when it was likely just that the person she saw at the clinic was offering the quickest way to get dealt with regardless of Covid.
She basically had another one of her customer service snits and chose to gamble her own health. Because the best of the best OBGYN wasn't there to swab the Queen.
Volunteer staff can swab mouths and throats and likely did that for her. But we aren't qualified nor are we covered legally to be asking people to lie back and spread em. And if it can be done by the patient the feedback and research shows people feel less stress, shame, and in the case of people who have had horrible sexual situations happen to them, less trauma, by be allowed to self swab after careful instruction is given and we provided diagrams and instructions to take to the bathroom.
And patients were always more than welcome to pull their pants back up and waste as many swabs as they wanted by coming back to the exam room and asking for further instruction and another swab.
The purpose of sexual health clinics is to create a low barrier, harm reduction, environment to STI testing and all other sexual and reproductive stuff people may feel skittish about.
Chantal is just an idiot who cannot handle her own shame and anger at her situation and therefore has to turn it around and twist the self swab into a barrier without asking for further help or an alternative...or she was told the alternative was a wait for the doctor and once again that is an excuse for Porky to do the least and blame the system.
Edited for typo because on phone.
