Sonic Movie Thread - From a Disastrous Teaser/Trailer to Not That Bad a Movie; Got a Sequel

TBH I'd rather they not recast Robotnik for a third movie if Jim refuses to do it for one more film and they just go with Stone. Carrey's performance was a treat and it'd be weird to watch someone else try to get that same energy going for the third movie.

As for the details, it could go either way, but I'll give more credence to it when the film actually starts shooting since plot ideas can change quite a bit.
I'd be fine if he doesn't wanna keep doing this. The guy isn't getting any younger so its understandable if he wants to drop out, and as long as they get an equally comical character actor to carry on the part I'm fine with it, although I would prefer Mike Myers myself since Dr. Evil just oozes that iconic Eggman energy.

There is that, but it's hard to believe it's anywhere near ready to start the render process given they were merely on the whiteboard phase a couple weeks ago.
True, but shit like Marvel has most of their movies ready in shitty cgi to get and idea of what it will be like.

If the leaks aren't complete bullshit, its probably just a bunch of basic concepts or storyboard ideas. So its all likely going to keep changing as production moves forward, but if any of this is true and survives the final draft I'd be fine with it.

He'd be a pretty interesting Robotnik, quite honestly. Though for me, it would have to be Danny DeVito or Patrick Stewart.
DeVito would make for a fun as hell Eggman not gonna lie. Stewart though just doesn't really seem like the sort who could carry the same torch as Carrey, Devito and Myers.

I think Alfred Molina would also make for a great Eggman if he channeled his character from the Dudley Do Right film.

I'd say Patrick Stewart as well (like I just mentioned) would be a pretty interesting Eggman. Though his performance would be on the lines of something off of the 90s OVA.

Alfred could be Eggman Nega if they want to bring Blaze in for the fourth movie.

TBH I'd rather they not recast Robotnik for a third movie if Jim refuses to do it for one more film and they just go with using Stone instead for it. It'd actually work just as well tbh, him obsessing over his boss so badly he revives his grandfather's experiment. Carrey's performance was a treat and it'd be weird to watch someone else try to get that same energy going for the third movie.

Yeah if Carrey won't do it, then Stone should just take the spot over, it could be funny since the actor actually seems to do a pretty good job with the scenes he has. Though if Carrey were to be replaced, I think Molina or Devito would be good recasts, Devito probably could work easily since they can write off how he looks different due to some bullshit surgery or bullshit from the emeralds.

Honestly if Carrey doesn't want to reprise his role as Eggman it's fine. They can find a new villain. I don't want them to recast Eggman since Carrey pretty much made the live action version in my eyes.
Not gonna happen. Eggman/Robotnik is as much of a mascot for the franchise as Sonic. Also characters and storylines shouldn't be slaves to their actors/celebrities. All that matters is that they find someone just as entertaining and charismatic to take up the role who still looks like the character ie bald, pale skinned and with a big mustache and with goofy sinister mannerisms. Any changes in appearance and voice can just be attributed to damage received from the final battle or a depression-induced weight gain, if they go with someone like Molina, Myers or Devito. Heck even Dafoe could replace Carrey.

You know, I'm thinking they could hire someone like not only Molina, Dafoe, DeVito or Myers, but also either Rowan Atkinson, Bryan Cranston, Larry David or even Patrick Stewart to play as Eggman once Carrey retires. Hell, I think Jack Black as Eggman might be a surprisingly fitting role, even Seth MacFarlane could do a decent Eggman. There's so many stars to choose from lol.

Hell, if they're concerned the actor change won't be well recieved, if they wanted they could even shift to calling the recast version of him "Dr. Eggman" most of the time instead of "Robotnik" to reference how the modern version of the character mostly gets called Eggman.

But would they have to change his name?

I'm actually growing on the idea of Stewart as Eggman. They could even make a joke out of him having a deeper voice, like when after Sonic asks why he looks different and Robotnik explains his complex rejuvenation story, Sonic then asks why his voice sounds different too and Eggman just responds with something completely mundane like he has a soar throat or had his tonsils taken out or something.

MacFarlene also has a pretty fun vocal range and I wouldn't mind hearing him sing his own version of Paul Shortino's I Am The Eggman.

Cast Shadow. Who will play Shadow?
David Humphrey/Jason Griffith would be my dream scenario. I mean, they brought over Tails' VA from the games, why not Shadow's as well?

As for Eggman's recasting, all good choices, fellow Kiwis, but, again, if I were in charge of it, I'd give it over to the man himself:

Hell, he's even got the roundness down pat!

If we're getting a full rejuvenation story I'd like to see them pull it from Fleetway and have him be encased in a giant artificial egg and rebirthing himself. Just for fun. Also: British Robotnik can regenerate just like Dr Who. Why? Because Fleetway didn't give a single, solitary fuck.

>The Eggman was literally re-born from a giant egg

Now this really cracks me up. This would genuinely be an eggcellent gag for the movie.
