He covered some interesting points that had been written by other people. I'm amused that I managed to call some of the beats of the video.

The video itself was insufferable. Ollie spent a lot of time grifting (the orange dress segment? Barely a segment, he was mostly talking about his play - BTW take a shot every time he says "my play"). He kept trying to force memes in a more annoying way than normal. At one point he mentions people asking him to write down his main points and reading them out without all "this extra stuff" (aka theatrical overproduction), which might have improved the video - although it was pretty rambling. Every explanatory analogy was about his play, his career as an actress, his famous friends (allusions to Contra breaking up with him and also he's waving around a Nabokov book), him being trans and him being a desirable "lesbian".

He also affected his pseudo-vulnerability by talking about being insecure about his ability to interpret art because he used to go out with an art historian, who I guess he decided to skin walk today.

He also had the nerve to just rock up to the Tate Britain and start filming. He ends his segment in front of an unrelated Rothko so I like to think he got moved on from the meditative gallery. He also talked about thinking about his ex-girlfriend and Spiderman 2 when he looked at Rothko, which makes me worried next time I see a Rothko I'll think of Ollie, and he's ruined Rothko for me :c

Oh and his Picasso "look" is even worse in motion. I'm ashamed to admit I did get a laugh out of the line "People say Picasso is asking the big questions like... what if there was a really fucked up looking woman?"

I'll give him this, he did take a genuine creative risk by praising David Mamet's play Race, which he did do with a lot of caveats but it still is surprising.

I was so distracted by his thin lips in the Picasso outfit. And the “jewelry” he wore in the Picasso outfit looked so cheap. It literally looked like it was made of felt.

I can’t believe he called “Paris” one of his best friends! He literally just tweeted with surprise about Paris’s apartment (like it was the first time he’d been there) and how Paris cooks. Like two months ago. Paris better speed dial Contra for tips on dealing with a clingy skinwalker.

I think it's hilarious on many levels actually. Straight girls send flirty texts to lesbians who they're friends with all the time without actually flirting. But Ollie's not a lesbian so this needs to be explained to him by his patient friend. Rather than accept that explanation he just assumes this girl is attracted to him anyway.

It continues to baffle me how this whole transgender craze just constantly loops back on itself to enforce the binary rather than break it down. Anyone remember when the term 'pansexual' was a thing? In Ollie's mind that doesn't exist and apparently neither does the group bisexuals, which at some point he claimed to be a member of. Nope, now it's "Girl is attracted to other girl = lesbian" (even though Ollie is only a girl in his own mind).

I think I'll find some time to watch Olly's vid just to confirm that it is indeed shit. Specifically I'd also like to contrast it to what I find to be a really good video on "getting art". Linking it in case anyone wants to use it to wash the taste of Olly's video from their mouth:

Probably not a one-to-one in terms of topic, but CJ the X goes through multiple of what art is, and then gives his own opinion, without any of the "ME ME ME" that you're likely to find in any of Olly's content.

I'm at the point where I think none of it actually makes any sense. Every single claim is logically contradictory and incoherent.

I'm sure there must be at least one of them out there who just says something like "well, I'd like to try to be a woman, whatever that means" but they seem to be few and far between while the rest descend into an actual cult religion.
